To Whom It May Concern:
Teenagers today face many obstacles to success. From balancing their oft busy schedules
to meeting the ever-rising bar that is set for those who want to achieve success in the
professional world, teens are asked to make hard choices early on and stick with them
throughout their education. Those who learn to manage their time well, face things with a
positive attitude, and work hard to reach their fullest potential stand out amongst the rest
as they work toward their ultimate goal. Carinne Geil is one of those stars.
In class Miss Geil excelled. Every day she would walk in with a smile on her face, ready to
get to work. She kept that focus and positivity regardless of how difficult a task might
present itself to her, and even when she achieved an acceptable level, she always strove
to extend beyond that and make her work exemplary.
Miss Geils writing was focused and detailed and stood out among the writing of her peers
in that she wrote with a stylistic flair unique to herself and entertaining to her intended
audience. Her understanding of texts and willingness and ability to express her
impressions of them was excellent. Though much of the coursework seemed to come easy
to her, it was her amazing work ethic that drove her to strive farther and dig deeper into
the material. By the end of the course her metacognitive skills in both speech and writing
were above and beyond anything I expected from an 11 th grade student, AP or otherwise.
I feel very fortunate to have had a student like Miss Geil in my classroom. Her creativity,
academic prowess, enthusiastic demeanor and focused determination were just a few of
the many personality traits that made Carinne successful in my AP level English course
and I am sure were beneficial in her many extracurricular endeavors as well. Some of
those that I feel indicate her talents, in reading, writing, and speech especially, include:
competing as a member of the schools Model UN team at Westminster College and Pitt;
taking part in the schools yearly Mock Trial; acting in leadership roles at school such as
Drum Major for the band, secretary for the auditioned advanced choir the Madrigals and
her participation in the Seneca Valley All School Musical; volunteering, organizing and
educating through the Childrens Hospital of Pittsburgh, the ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran
Church of America) National Youth Gathering, the Relay for Life, and leading Brownie
workshops for a local chapter of the Girl Scouts of America; and providing childcare
services at weekend services at her church, Hope Lutheran.
I am sure that you will appreciate working with such a positive, hardworking, independent,
and inspiring young woman just as much as I have, so I hope that you will consider
accepting Carinne Geil into your program. She has been such a pleasure for me to teach
and I really look forward to seeing the amazing things that I know she will do with her
future.
If you have any further questions regarding her work ethic, attitude, or reading and writing
skills please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,

Miss Amanda M. Armor
