Lesson Topic: Unit Lesson 2 of 3

Staying Organized and
Transcripts

Learner(s): Yuning and Sefali

Reflect on your previous lesson: What went well? What did not go well?
-Last lesson plan was on applications. Yuning was not present for the lesson. I
did a vocabulary overview, which Sefali said was very helpful since she did
struggle with some of the words. When I went to fill out an application with
her, she said she didnt want to fill one out because she has filled out
applications in the past. I have found that a good hour of our lessons is
usually devoted to looking over writing and answering questions. Sefali does
not like to waste time on things she doesnt feel are her top priorities. Her
top priorities are usually her questions about her other English class and
things that happen in her life. Like her, Im usually easy going about
changing the course of my lesson.
What have you learned about the student(s) that will inform this lesson?
(Think about data from assessments or from your previous activities)
-I learned that while Sefali needs help with these things having to do with
school and transferring, she was the bulleted version and not a full lesson
plan worth. She likes to have control of where her learning goes, which is fine
with me. A heavy chuck of the lessons is devoted to looking over her work
and answering her questions. She has only recently become more assertive,
which makes me feel like we have a really great, safe space to ask questions
and learn.
Objective(s) for this lesson:
- After learning target vocabulary and discussing day planners, students will
be able to navigate the day planner to find important dates.
Brief description of activity:
-First, we will discuss any questions they may have on anything that they ran
into this week or thought about after our last few lessons. This will take up
the majority of the lesson time.
-Next, we will go over the target vocabulary used in college transcripts and
calendars and their definitions as a group.
Target Vocabulary:

-Deadline
-Priority
-Registration
-Due dates
-Tuition
-Drop
-Add
-Withdraw
-Holliday
-Afterwards, We will navigate the websites (EKU and BCTC) to get to the
applications. (At this point me may need to go over creating a user name
and password for an application.) We will then fill out an application together.
We will discuss how and where to find some of the information that the
application asks for such as major, SSN, etc.
-We will then discuss the academic calendars/day planners that I will have for
them with dates already put in for the school and time they are looking to
apply.
-After that, I will touch on how to send a transcript to the school of your
choice. (This will be very brief as it only applies to Yuning who is transferring
credits from BCTC to EKU)
-With any leftover time, we will discuss their latest writing samples and talk
about any specifics they would like to work on with their writing.
List any materials youll need for this lesson:
-Day Planners
-Computer
