Online Collaboration workshops


Professional learning in Microsoft Office 365, Google
Apps and 21st century learning
Hands-on workshops to embed online collaborative learning in your
classroom and across school communities
Learning Systems is presenting two consecutive days of face-to-face professional learning for teachers looking to enhance
online collaborative learning in their school and across school networks. The courses explore pedagogies and strategies for
embedding the department's online collaboration tools, Microsoft Office 365 and Google Apps for Education, in and out of the
classroom to enhance collaborative practise.
Day 1 is registered at Proficient level and focuses on developing a better understanding of using these tools with todays
learners.
Day 2 is registered at Lead level and focuses on leading collaborative learning initiatives both within a school and partner
communities. Day 1 is a prerequisite for day 2.

Day 1: Online collaboration part 1 - Proficient


Target audience:
Teachers who want to work collegially to improve their use of online tools in education. Collaborative learning is a major focus.
Teachers from rural or remote schools will be given priority.

10 hours of registered professional development for the maintenance of accreditation at Proficient comprising:

two hours to be completed before the workshop

five hours at the workshop

three hours after the workshop.

Australian Professional Standards for Teachers addressed in this course


This course will address the following standard descriptors:
1.2.2: Structure teaching programs using research and collegial advice about how students learn.
2.6.2: Use effective teaching strategies to integrate ICT into learning and teaching programs to make selected content relevant
and meaningful.
6.2.2: Participate in learning to update knowledge and practice, targeted to professional needs and school and/or system
priorities.
6.3.2: Contribute to collegial discussions and apply constructive feedback from colleagues to improve professional knowledge
and practice.
7.4.2: Participate in professional and community networks and forums to broaden knowledge and improve practice.

Outcomes
Participants will:

engage with and reflect on research on collaborative learning before the face-to-face one-day workshop

work collaboratively with online learning tools such as Google Apps, Microsoft Office 365 and Adobe Connect to enable
online collaboration on a new or existing project

apply the principles of 21st century learning design in classrooms

use collaborative technology to work with expert classroom practitioners within and across schools.

Day 2: Online collaboration part 2 - Lead


Target audience
Teachers who want to extend their leadership in online collaboration within a faculty, school or schools network. This course
involves leading the collaborative development of learning resources.

This course will contribute six hours of registered professional development for the maintenance of accreditation at Lead.

Australian Professional Standards for Teachers


This course will address the following standard descriptors:
2.6.4: Lead and support colleagues within the school to select and use ICT with effective teaching strategies to expand
learning opportunities and content knowledge for all students.
3.4.4: Model exemplary skills and lead colleagues in selecting, creating and evaluating resources, including ICT, for application
by teachers within or beyond the school.
7.4.4: Take a leadership role in professional and community networks and support the involvement of colleagues in external
learning opportunities.

Outcomes
Participants will:

engage with leading the development of 21st century skills and 21st century learning design in schools

collegially build an online collaborative learning resource using a Google Sites template, modelling the leadership of such
a project in school.

Participant requirements/commitment
For both courses, participants will need to:

complete all sections of the course, including the two hours of activity before coming to Online collaboration part 1. All
activities will be emailed to participants on enrolment.

bring computer technology that can access Office 365, Google Apps and Adobe Connect (a laptop is preferred). If using a
tablet make sure the free Google and Office apps are installed.

prior to the course, identify a colleague or colleagues with whom they can work collaboratively. It is strongly advised that
where possible, the identified collaborator also complete the course.

bring an existing or potential idea for a collaborative project that can be workshopped during the course and implemented
on return to school or across a school network.

Enrolment notes
In order to finalise catering requirements, enrolments close either one week before the event or when the event reaches
capacity.
Morning tea and lunch will be provided for participants. All workshops run from 8:30am to 3:30pm.
