Shinki Gensou: Spectral Souls II FAQ

Version 4.1 11/8/2005

bakatare555@gmail.com
Just a quick intro. This FAQ will cover the basics, along with a rough outline
of how to get every character, along with some hints and secrets. I am going to
assume everyone playing has at least basic Japanese knowledge. For reference in
the FAQ, when I say Shinsei, I mean the New Shimba Imperial army, led by Naiz.
When I say Neverland, I mean the Neverland Imperial army led by Rose and Hiro,
and when I say Roses, I mean the Roses Liberation Army, led by Mue.

I. World Map Screen
As the name may suggest, this is the screen you see when you are on the world
map. Pressing triangle will bring up the menu options.
Move.
Self explanatory, pick where you want to go. You can also do this
manually by moving the cursor.
Status.
This will bring you to the screen where you can manage your characters. More on
this later.
Change Power.
This lets you switch between the 3 kingdoms.
Help.
Self explnatory, use the tutorials if you need to.
Hold attack notes.
In shops you can buy notes that reveal different hold and charge attacks. You
are able to look at them with this choice.
Titles.
Completing certain tasks will net you a new title and an item. Check with
this often to see if you fulfilled anything.
Combination notes.
Same as hold attack, just for combination.
Item Book.
This keeps track of all the items you have found throughout the game.
Completing it will net you a title and item. Rumor has it fully completing
every page will make EVERYTHING in the game available for sale, including
things like level 5 skills/spells and character original skills.
History.
This shows the game timeline, will changes as you play and pick different
routes.
Options.

Set your game settings.

File.
Save and load. View character profiles, and look at gallery photos.
II. Towns and Shops.
Over the course of the game, you will have access to different towns and such.
Each is identical in that they feature an item shop, guild, combination house,
and a person standing outside to welcome you and sometimes give info on hidden
areas.
Item shop.
Self explanatory, simply buy and sell.
Guild.
3 options: Search, Class Change, Party Point Distribute.
Search lets you scan areas for hidden areas and items. Each character has their
own proficiency, so better characters will yield a bigger search circle. There
are tons of things to be found with this option, hidden dungeons, items, and
characters.
Class Change will become available for characters when they hit level 25 and
40. The only character without 2 changes is Audried. The first change at 25
costs 3000 gold and will put the characterin a 1 on 1 battle with a random
enemy, and is usually pretty easy. The second change costs 10000 and will pit
them against a level 50 doppelganger of themself, and can be hard.
Party Point Distribute. This allows you to level up stats with bonus points
obtained after completing battles.
Combination Shop.
5 options here. Combine, Allot EP, Upgrade, Skill Create, and add to shop.
Combine is self explanatory. The only thing of note is combining items that
don't have a natural recipe together will make a random item. This isn't always
bad, as you can get some really great equipment from random synthing.
Allot EP applies EP gained in battle to weapons, to rank them up. Weapons cap
at rank 5, and of course the stronger they are, the more EP it takes. You can
also use this to rank up auto-skills and make their effect better.
Upgrade. Once a piece of equipment is rank 5, sometimes it can be upgraded to
the next level. Example: A rank 5 Silver Sword can be upgraded to a Platina
Sword. You can check and see what an item turns into by unequipping it and
checking this option.
Skill Create. Very important here, as this allows you to create new spells and
skills. You can check to see what ingredients are needed for each even if you
can't make them so be sure to do that. They follow this pattern:
1-31 are elemental spells, in this order: Attack ->Level 2->Level 3->Level 4.
The only exception is the Nothingness element, that has no attack.
32-58 are weapon skills. Level 2->3->4. Level 3 is usually a weak area attack.
Personally speaking, Sonic Edge for sword and Trick Dagger for dagger are the
only ones worth it. Level 1 skills are purchased in shops.
59-66 are recovery spells
67-73 are stat up spells, such as Speed Shell.
74-82 are negative status and other oddball skills like steal and Rua.
83-88 are attack skills and self status boosts like Perception and Move Charge.

Add to Shop. Some items when they become rank 5 can be added to shop
inventories. This can save you EP in the long run for items you will repeatedly
have to make, such as Magicians Rod and Silver Sword. For the most part you may
not use this so much.
III. Status Menu
Choosing status will bring up your party menu. Here you can micromanage you
characters. Press triangle to bring up the menu.
First option is Item. This lets you equip them or use items that boost stats.
The bottom choice shows your entire inventory. Hit start to organize them
either automatically or manually.
Second option lets you set weapon skills and spells. The icons of course will
denote what can be equipped there.
3rd option sets Auto Skills, such as Move+1 or poison resistance. These can be
equipped
as long as you have an empty slot. To remove an auto-skill from a piece of
armor, simply equip it on any character, then remove it. This will take the
auto-skill off and allow it to be equipped on anyone and any armor.
4th option lets you organize your characters, by Number, Level, or manual.
IV. Historical Point.
One of the focal points of the game, Historical Points (or HPs), let you play
out this edition of Neverland War from whichever perspective you wish. This
will alter history and your ending. Once the HP message pops up and you enter
the HP, the next move you make will play out in that armies' POV. Early on, for
example, if you advance as the Shinsei army, you will be attacking a castle,
while if you play as Neverland, you will be defending it. Along with the
other branching paths the game offers, you can make every playthrough unique.
V. Battle.
Obviously the bread and butter of the game. Every action requires AP to execute.
First option is move. Which ...allows you to move. This will always take up 6
AP regardless of how far or not so far you are moving. Be careful which
direction you end up facing, because being attacked from behind or from the
side will greatly increase damage given. Use this to your advantage, too. Since
every movement is 6 AP, always move to the enemy side or rear, if possible.
Second option is your skill pool. You can do them on their own, or use a "Hold".
Hold is essential, and new to this edition of the game. Hold lets you chain
multiple skills together in one turn, sometimes making stronger skills. Early
on you will learn that using hold with 2 Slash skills will make Triple Slash.
There are tons of combos to be found, so experiment. The general rule is, 2
level 1 skills will
make a level 2, 2 level 2s will make a 4. Combine a 1, 2, and 4 to make a level
5. There are also skills that come out when combining elemental spells with
attack, among other things. Experiment and have fun.
3rd option is Charge. This brings you back to the skill menu, where you can
choose normally. This will "charge" the action so the next time your target is
attacked, the action will trigger with a damage bonus. You can use this to make
combos between 2 characters or just add a damage boost. Manipulating chargeand
hold is the key to successful battles.
Example:
Naiz charges Slash on Enemy A. Duelers' turn comes up next, and he uses Slash
on Enemy A. This triggers Naiz' Slash, and will make a 2 person Triple Slash.

4th option lets you use items. Unlike SS1, this game uses a "party bag" system,
so every character has full access to all your items, instead of having to
carry their own.
5th option is the status screen, which shows you stats and such for both your
characters and enemies. Use it to check weaknesses and what weapons certain
strong enemies might drop for you.
6th option ends a characters turn.
VI. True Ending Route
This path will get you every single character, and the best ending. I don't
mention Ikai no Mon or Battle Points, but I do recommend clearing them to the
highest possible level in between each HP. This the is the path I took, and I
got the true ending.
Opening
After the opening, choose Neverland, and choose to go to Golden area. Clear the
battle in Milabero in under 75 turns. Switch to Shinsei.
With Shinsei choose to fight at the fort. Win in under 99 turns. Finish up with
Neverland.
Clear the HP1 with Shinsei
Start with Neverland, and do all of their battles.
Take the forest route with Shinsei. Recruit Himika. Clear the forest stage in
under 100 turns. Continue to Mazina, and defeat Hiro in the battle, don't win
by the other condition.
Choose Neverland for HP2
With Neverland choose the rebel suppression route. Advance to Lithanit, then
recruit Curme. Switch to the Roses, choose to meet Cuo, and advance to
South-West.
Switch to Shinsei and choose the detour route. Clear Rapis Beach in under 75
turns. Clear the 2 Maldar Fort battles in under 150 and 200 turns,
respectively. Recruit Yam-Ku.
Following the above, you will be able to select the Roses for HP3, do so to
recruit Arsas.
Start off as Neverland, choose the sea route. In the first battle, keep Levy
alive, so she will join. Advance all the way through their story battles. In
the last battle in Varanoir, don't kill Reinmilan. Change to the Roses. In the
first battle in Neibos, make sure at least 3 civilians survive, and last the
whole 150 turns. Finish up all their battles, winning in Dupan in under 150
turns. Finish up with Shinsei, choose the camouflage route.
Choose the Roses or Shinsei for HP4. With Shinsei make sure to kill Iraena.
Start as Shinsei, play the first battle with the Ikai characters. When
prompted, choose the sea route. Change to Neverland, choose the detour route.
Recruit Roseblod and Nail. Advance all the way through their story. (If you go
back into the desert right after clearing it and before going to the castle,
you can fight a bonus battle). Clear Shinsei, then the Roses.
Beat HP5 with Neverland.
Start with Shinsei. Take the Gaugabul route, finish all their battles. Switch
over to the Roses, clear all the way through. Choose "shingari". Finish up with
Neverland.
Beat HP6 with Neverland in Almana fort.
Beat the Roses battles in the order of: Ferias->Ashiria->Gatzo->Beminapa. Play
through Neverland, choosing the Ferias route. With Shinsei take the Shirineeg

route.
HP7 with Neverland.
Start as Shinsei in the last group stage. Clear completely in the order
Shinsei->Neverland->Roses. Make sure to recruit Shell. HP8 will be compulsive
Roses.
After the armies integrate, See the events in Kingszolfin, then finish the Ikai
no Mon to floor 25. Find and clear the Temple with no Name before proceeding to
Elentz Port to recruit Shiro. If you fight 7 battles instead of 6, you will get
the true route and ending.
VII. Tips and Secrets.
--Best skills:
Thousand Kill - QAttack x6
This can get as high as 120 chain. Highest damage I have seen from it is 450K.
Obviously this is your boss killer.
Quintuple Attack - QAttack + Triple Attack + Double Attack
Single character version of Thousand Kill. Does around 12 hits. Good for
eliminating small enemies quickly without srtting up eleborate charge chains.
Inviga - Sparkshot + Glacier
12 hit spell. Probably the best single target attack for most of the game.
Tempest - Sparkshot + Glacier + Tempera
Inviga to multiple enemies, essentially. Mick has the ability to do this using
only his innate slots, making him the best mage in the game.
Rotten Breath - Monster Skill, learned from Dragon Zombie
6 hits, 3 physical and 3 magical. It also has a high occuring poison property.
Great for Shiro and his high AP. You can fight Dragon Zombies in the last Roses
battle point.
--Hidden characters:
-Himika
Before HP3 ends. Clear Ikai no Mon through level 3 as Shinsei and Neverland.
This will open a Forest Outskirts battlefield in the Garena regions. Clear as
Shinsei, then go to Lit. Himika rules.
-Yam-Ku
Clear Shinsei Battle Point 1, which will open a battle field in the Golden
Area. Clear to that with Shinsei to get the Super Ape man, Yam-Ku
-Curme
Clear Ikai no Mon through floor 6, then Neverland Battle Point 1. Search for
and clear Bruck Valley, making sure Curme lives. The winged spearman will be
yours.
-Arsas
Clear HP3 with the Roses. This may conflict with the true ending route, because
you probably have to choose to not meet Cuo with the Roses in order to get the
option to play HP3 with them. He is outclassed by Nagi in every way, so don't
worry too much about missing him.
-Levy
With Neverland after clearing HP3, choose the sea route and make sure she

survives. Best mage Neverland gets.

-Roseblod and Nail
After HP4 and the Neverland story has been started. Clear the Ikai no Mon up to
floor 12, then search for and clear the Rotted Ruins. Both should get spots in
your permanent party.
-Jade
With Shinsei after clearing HP4. Choose the sea route. He will join after the
last fight in the series. Shirtless pirate gunman.
-Shell
If you are on the true route or the Roses route, you can recruit the ditzy
angel. After HP7, when you get back to the Roses, after the event on the
nameless hill, search the Eulid area, on the little peninsula south of the
lake. This will open up her battle field.
--Hidden areas
In addition to the 2 areas that get you hidden characters, there are also a few
other hidden battlefields that can be foudn with search. The timing and
requirements to find them can be infuriating and random at times, so if you
miss one or simply can't find one despite fulfilling the requirements, blame
the game. (One of my few problems with the game is this). One tip I can give,
is even if it isn't listed as a requirement, try clearing the most recent
battle point and the Ikai no Mon as far as you can. The exp and EP isn't going
to hurt you.
Forgotten Cave (Shinsei):
Timing: After clearing HP2, before clearing HP3
When given the option, choose the detour route. Clear the Ikai no Mon through
floor 6, and also clear Shinsei BP1 (you would do this to recruit Yam-Ku
anyway).
In the first battle (Lavis Beach), there is a breakable rock at the highest
point. Break it. Go to Niva, and you will hear some info about it. Go to the
guild and search, it is in the Garena area, to the right of Maldar. The battle
contains 3 Clear Doll enemies worth 100EP, and the breakable rock has an item
required to make the spell Stardust. Make sure you have Status Clear, or a lot
of status cures, because the Dolls have a full array of status+ spells, and a
ton of AP to use them.
Bruck Valley (Neverland):
Timing: After HP2, before HP3
Clear Ikai no Mon 6, and Neverland BP1. Talk in Niva to get info (do this
before or after doing the Forgotten Cave with Shinsei). The search area is a
bit to the north of Niva, right before the northern border comes to a point.
Curme will join on this battlefield, and it can be hard depending on your enemy
allotment. You will get 1-3 Warlocks, who will spam Atomic Hole, sometimes at
Curme. If he dies, you lose him for good. Once the spellcasters are out of the
way, it's easy, just watch Curme, since he is pretty reckless. Nothing too
spectacular in the breakables.
Spectacular Rocks (Roses):
Timing: Right after Mick joins the Roses.
In part 1 of the 2 part battle in Neibos, stall for 120 turns (bring the enemy
ranks down to 1, and just surround him). After Mick joins, go to Lit with them
to get info. 3 Clear Dolls here, 100EP a pop. Nothing special in the breakable
in my go through.
Rotted Ruins (Neverland)
Timing: After HP4

Start the story rolling with Neverland, and open up the first battlefield. Go
through floor 12 in the Ikai no Mon (3 level 40 Dragons, it can be tough at
this stage of the game). Now go to Hellphanepool to get the info. Search the
Valhalla area to the north, in the snowfield. There are to patches of brown
with seem to point to the spot in the middle, it's around there. Battle is
nothing special, but you can get 2 good daggers in the crates. Great for the
incoming Roseblod, who will join you, along with Nail, after you win.
Cave of Grief (Shinsei)
Timing: After clearing Shinsei BP4, and Jade is in the party.
Info is obtained in Marichik. Location is just to the right of Aspern Fort, in
Shurak Sea area. After you whittle the enemies down to 2 or 3, 3 Clear Dolls
will spawn, again 100EP each. Breakable had a fist weapon.
Beminapa Forest Interior (Roses)
Timing: Shortly after clearing Beminapa Forest proper.
Get the info in Noishulan, then search a little to the right of the actual
forest, near the triangle border. You will fight a boss in here (Titan), who
drops the item to make Earthquake. The crate is usually nothing good.
Eastern Dark Marsh (Neverland)
Timing: Opens between HP6 and 7, but requires unknown triggers,
Dialgo area. Search the right side of the black area after hearing about it in
Noishulan. You fight a Vampire here, who will drop the item to make Grand
Cross. I don't remember breakables. This is only available in the Neverland
route.
Forest of Light Outskirts (Shinsei)
Timing: After clearing the Forest of Light. Info is obtained in Noishulan (if
you triggered the Eastern Dark Marsh you will have to find and clear it first).
Search a little to the upper right of the forest. Depending on which route you
take, you may not have the option to clear the Forest of Light, hence making
this area inaccessible.
Dragon's Mouth (Roses)
Timing: After clearing the Forest of Light outskirts.
This appears normally as an HP area for the Roses, so memorize it's location.
Info can be obtained in Noishulan after clearing the Forest of Light Outskirts.
The battle contains 4-6 level 70 Dragons, who will probably stomp you into the
ground if you attempt it as soon as you can. It will be game over...so my
advice is to just open it, and not go there until after you beat the game. If
you clear with the Roses ending, you can come back here and level for the
post-clear madness. You can't fight here if you didn't choice the HP battle for
the Roses that takes place here.
Lake Town Mare.
Timing: After HP7, after the event on the Nameless Hill but before doing
anything else with the Roses.
The only way to open this area is to be finishing on the Roses route (best
ending). Before going on to fight the Roses series in Grana Church, search just
south of Yulid Lake in the Eiks area (on the little peninsula or thereabouts).
Shell will join in this battle...but will be level 1.
Fontinoa
Timing: Anytime after all the armies integrate.
Search the lower middle portion of the newly opened Hellphanepool area. Look
for the area where the forest and plains start to meet. The breakables will
yield one Tri-Guard apiece, which has the Counter auto-skill.
Namless Temple

Timing: After integration.

You can only find this area if you are getting the Roses ending. It's somewhere
in the Kaizelorn area, which was only accessible during their portion of the
game. If you are getting the true route ending, Shiro will join from here. He
is also level 1.
--Post Clear Activites
After your ending finishes, you will get the option to save. Do so in an empty
slot, if possible. If you choose to load this save, you get 3 options.
First option is to start a new game. If you do this, you will play a new game
from the beginning. Once you get past the opening battles, and can freely move,
you will notice that you have 1200 or so EP, between 300 and 500 PP, and a
random allotment of the items you had at the end of your last play. They will
be divided among the 3 armies, randomly. The distribution is set when the clear
file is made, so if you don't like the hand you were dealt, you will have to
beat the game again to mix it up. With the exception of Hiro and the breaker
users, odds are you won't get too shafted, equipment wise. Obviously this makes
this playthrough much easier. You should take 1 damage from everything until
HP6 at the earliest. If you are planning on tackling the post clear battles,
save ALL your PP and as much EP as you can.
If you choose to just outright Load your clear file, you will be back on the
world map with your party. You will notice right away you have access to every
area in the game, in addition to 1 new one, the Spectral Tower (you can't enter
there yet...). There are several things to do here.
First thing you have access to, are floors 25-50 in the Ikai no Mon. Difficulty
ramps up pretty high starting on floor 25, so be prepared. (My end game party
was destroyed by gremlins who spammed multiple Grand Cross on every turn).
There are a myriad of bosses and strong enemies, culminating with Double X at
the end. Up to 45, the same pattern applies, and you can escape on all non-boss
floors. Starting with 46, you will take them one floor at a time, fighting a
boss on each one. Every boss you beat will yield you a title, so after each of
these 5 battles, check for it.
Here is a rundown of what you will be facing:
Floor 44 - Cursed Sword
Don't worry about this fight, it is cake compared to what is to come.
Floor 45 - Strengthened Draconian + Draconian x2~3
If you are using Naiz, just stick him up front to tank and you will not have
many problems. Runelba works fine in this role too. The boss drops a Dragon
Heart, which you can use to make a Dragon Wing breaker.
Floor 46 - Ambrosia + 2x White Ark, 2x Black Dragon
The normal dragons are no trouble. Ambrosia can be difficult to actually attack
with your entire party, depending on your set up. Just keep your party spread
out so when he starts using breath attacks he isn't taking out everyone. Have
SPs or Mick on Acceleration when he gets low to take him out.
Floor 47 - Rune Blade + 8x Angel Knight
Don't advance too far onto the field, you will want to keep some of the Angels
idle while you lower their numbers. The Rune Blade has 2 extremely dangerous
SPs. Dancing Sword does tremendous HP damage, and it's other one causes instant
death with high probability. SPs and Magic are needed to take it out.
Floor 48 Vermillion + Left and Right Arm
No small fish enemies here. Focus on the arms first. One is physical and the
other is magic. Take the magic arm out first if possible, since it has a lot of

status attacks and can High Heal for 34K per cast. Vermillions' main SP does
high damage to low VIT characters, so be prepared with Grooming or God Breath
to protect yourself. After this fight you will have all the ingredients to make
a Matrix armour, which is by far the best for mages. Make is ASAP.
Floor 49 Sataniel + 6x Dark Angel
This is mostly magic based opposition, so get your resists up. The boss itself
is quite easy (I took her down in 2 Thousand Kills), so don't worry too much
here.
Floor 50 Double X
Depending on your set up, this is going to be super easy, or 400 turns +
constant death. He has insane HP, somewhere up over a million or so. As with
all dragons, keep your party spread so one breath attack can't wipe you out. Be
sure to break the chest to get the armor inside.
After clearing that, regroup and restock up on items, and re-enter floor 48.
You have to do these consecutive style, so no leaving in between.
Floor 48 Vermillion + Arms 3x
Yeah, I know. Try and get 1 down at a time and you shouldn't have much problem.
Remember, you did it once before. All the parts drop rusty equipment, which is
important if you are going after Hiros' GOH. Have a few characters with maxed
out Item Drop auto skills. Nashi will spawn on turn 250 or so, so be prepared.
Floor 49 Sataniel, Strengthened Draconian. Rune Blade 2x
The 2x is misleading. After killing one pair, a second pair will pop. In
reality you are going to be killing 4 of each. I didn't find it to be too hard,
but it is a very long fight.
Floor 50 Double X 2x, Ambrosia 2x
Keep in mind that these things can't move, so you will only ever have 1
attacking you. Take out the Ambrosias' first since they will be a joke by now.
The tricky part of this fight is that the Double Xs' can now use Hellgazer.
It's instant death probability is pretty high, which can be infuriating if you
have 1 dragon left with low HP.....
The following fights can be done in any order, and can only be done once. They
are all series style, so have the appropriate supplies. All the battles that
feature regular soldiers will have 1 or 2 waves of them that appear when you
kill the first batch.
-Walans Fort1 - vs. Bazgel, Falzen, Hainel + Soldiers
Hainel has Acceleration. This is very easy.
2 - vs. Guineviera, Jeck, Gastol + Soldiers
Jeck is by far the most dangerous. Usually he will just snipe you from his
start position with Hold Break and Prison Dead while you break down the lines.
3 - vs. Minald, Kuroits, Aul Fauron
Minald has acceleration and Aul Fauron is very strong. Try and lure one down at
a time. When Aul Fauron joins the fight, keep your healers and revivers out of
the path so his Outrage SP doesn't murder them. Killing Minald and Kuroits will
spawn 2 Nashi enemies, but they are nowhere near the threat they once were.
-Granas
1 - vs.
Audried
some of

ChurchAudried, Corlia Soldiers

has Acceleration, so don't go after him until you have whittled down
the mages. This is a very hard fight because of the shear number of

enemies.
2 - vs. Dueler, Corlia Soldiers
His SPs are very strong, so spread out when his turn is coming.
3 - vs. Lindstrum, Audried, Dueler
Audried and Dueler are identical to their prior versions. Lindstrum is
dangerous but pretty slow. This isn't as hard as it you would think because
there are no mages to deal with.
-Meikei1 - vs. Purple, Violet, Yellow, Schwartz
All but Schwartz have Accleration. Violet and Purple can be taken down in 2
turns and aren't very strong, so don't worry too much here. You don't have to
deal with any other enemies here, making it easy.
2 - vs. Sigried, Ifu, Bayard
Ifu should be your main target here, since he has Acceleration AND his normal
attacks can cause death instantly. The battlefield actually is your advantage
here, as you only have to deal with 1 at a time, and can keep them away from
your back ranks.
3. vs. Janess, Cassius, Hiro2, Jadou
Redux of the final battle. Killing Cassius, Hiro2 and Jadou will spawn a pair
of Nashi each. Janess won't use Hellgazer as much as the first time, so don't
worry too much.
After clearing all of the above, you have one last series to try.
-Spectral Tower1 - vs. Sataniel, Rune Blade, Strengthened Draconian
Similar to the Ikai no Mon fight, only 1 pair of each. Stupid easy by this
point.
2 - vs. Lestol, Li Feion, Ralion
Ok, the most important piece of advice in the game I can give is for this
fight. DO NOT KILL RALION FIRST. For every turn that ends after killing her
before the other 2, 2x Nashi will pop. Otherwise, Lestol has Acceleration and
will spam Spread Spider which does high damage and Don't Move/Don't Act. His
Soul Crash will do over 200,000 damage if he gets to do it, so take him down
first. Li Feion is easy, and Ralions' defense is so low you can kill her in 1
combo.
3 - vs. Wave
Wave is the father of Scarface, and one of the 2 most powerful beings in the
Neverland universe. The bright side is he doesn't have Acceleration. He has
monster HP, but otherwise if you keep him focused on your tank he shouldn't be
too dangerous.
I recommend a minimum of 3 playthroughs before you even attempt this, since you
will need the extra PP to max out stats. Multiple copies of the better armor
and auto skills will also be invaluable. Level 5 HP Up+, All Rounder+, Evasion
Up are musts on ALL characters. I used Hiro, Max, Naiz, Cuo, Shiro, and Mick
for these. Use whoever you like, but don't waste your PP until you have a party
you are totally comfortable with.
Beat all this and you will surely be a Spectral Souls 2 master!
Now that I have beaten every battle, this is probably the last revision unless
I feel really ambitious and start doing lists.

Spectral Souls is a great game released by Idea Factory in Japan and
translated by NIS America for the US market. The original game was Spectral
Souls 2 for the PS2 (JP only). The PSP version removes the level cap and
apparently adds an extra dungeon.
While I have easily spent over 250 hours with this game (PSP and PS2
versions), I have not uncovered all of it's secrets (or finished all the
post-game dungeons, for that matter).

----------------------------------------------------------------------2) True Ending Guide

OK, there are three major endings to the game, one for each army. However,
there is a variation on the Roses ending that is known as the "True" ending,
the one that is considered canon by Idea Factory. The following steps will
get you the True Ending.
Any places I have not reached in the English version are written with their
Japanese name in romaji within brackets [ ]. I will try and replace them
with the official English name as I go through each step.
This sequence is compiled and cross-checked from several sources. It is the
route I followed when I got the true route in the PS2 version. There is still
the possibility it is incorrect. If so, I will fix it as soon as possible.
In other words, use at your own risk!
NL = Neverland Army
SA = Simba Army
Rozess = Rozess group
Recruiting optional characters has some leeway. I put in where you can first
get them. You must have recruited every character to get the True ending!
See the character section for details on how to get each character.
[walkthrough begins]
Start of game: Go through the three required missions with Niaz, Corwin, and
Marx.
1) NL: Go to King Sorfin, choose to dispatch troops to Golden. Fight the
battle at the Mirabello Grasslands (win <75 turns)
2) SA: Go to Saulve Bastion, choose to fight. Win the first fight in under
99 turns. Win the second fight (destroy all opponents) in under 100
turns (see next section for walkthrough fo this battle)
3) NL: Win the fight at Saulve Bastion.
*** HP1: Play as Simba. Fight the battle at Armana Castle.
1) NL: Go to King Sorfin (Hiro joins). Go to Wilgeine Keep (Tal joins).
Fight at the Cactus Desert (win <100 turns). Fight at Marengo
Fortress.
2) SA: Go to Armana Castle (Leila and Trevor join). Choose the forest route.
Recruit Himika. Clear Fell Forest in under 100 turns. Clear Medina
Ruins (defeat Hiro).
*** HP2: Play as Neverland. Fight the battle at Ayeina Grasslands.
1) NL: King Sorfin (Igraine joins), choose to suppress the rebel army.
Fight at Lithanit. Recruit Kurt.

2) RA: In Varanoire, choose to go meet Cuo (Cuo and Fredrika join). Finish
the rest of the Rozess battles.
3) SA: (Nora joins) Choose to take the detour. Complete Lapis Valley in
under 75 turns. Clear Mulder Fort north gate in under 150 turns.
Clear the cellar in under 200 turns. Recruit Yamu Ku.
4) NL: Finish the North Woods and Markinson Fortress battles.
*** HP3: Play as Rozess or Simba.
IMPORTANT! You MUST start with NL and choose the sea route before
doing any of the other armies' battles!
1) NL: In King Sorfin, choose the sea route. Fight the Shurak Sea
battle, keeing Levi alive (Levi joins). Fight at Varanoir, but DO
NOT KILL Laemillan!
2) Rozess: Fight at Kazaph Forest, then go to Neipos. Fight the first battle,
but make sure at least 3 civilians survive and the battle lasts at
least 150 turns! Win the second battle (Mick joins) and then go
to Dupen and win in under 150 turns.
3) SA: Go to Armana Castle (Zhang Khan joins). Choose the false retreat
option. Win the next battle by killing all the enemies, not using
the exit. Finish the series of battles.
*** HP4: Rozess or Simba
1) SA: Visit Armana Castle. Play the first battle. Go to Marchuk (Scarface
joins). Choose "Invade the De Argo Islands" when prompted.
2) NL: At King Sorfin, choose the desert route. Finish the battle sequence.
Recruit Rosette and Nell.
3) SA: Complete their remaining battles (Jed joins).
4) Rozess: Go to Varanoire (Yen joins). Complete their battles.
*** HP5: Neverland
1) SA: At Warrence castle, choose to go the Gaugabur route. Complete their
battles.
2) Rozess: Clear their battles. Choose "Stay behind" when prompted.
3) NL: Complete their battles.
*** HP6: Choose Neverland (Armana Castle) or Rozess
1) Rozess: Go to Beminad Forest. Clear Castle Town Faeris, Assilia
Grasslands, Gattzo, and then Mountain Range, in that order.

2) NL: Finish their battles, choosing the Castle Town Faeris route when
prompted.
3) SA: Finish their battles, choosing the Shiring route when prompted.
*** HP7: Neverland or Rozess
1) SA: Finish their battles (Ankrauser joins).
2) NL: Finish their battles (Rose joins).
3) Rozess. Finish their battles. Go to Forgotten Hill (Garnet rejoins).
Make sure you recruit Shell!
*** HP8: You should be forced to use Rozess if you did everything right so far.
Clear as far as you are permitted in the Otherworld Gate and recruit Shiro
before proceeding! Failure to do so will deny you the true ending!
1) Finish all battles (linear sequence). You should have 7 battles at the port
instead of 6 as usual.
*** Watch the true ending!
[end of walkthrough]
----------------------------------------------------------------------3) Troublesome battles
a) Second half of the Saulve Bastion fight before HP 1
1) Prep for the battle by buying a Sparta sword for Naiz, a Bracelet for Niaz
and Corwin, and a Mystic for Corwin (sell other stuff to get enough money, but
NOT grass. Sell Herbs or Ore if you have any). Level up the Sparta and Mystic
to 3 each with the EP from the first battles.
2) In the first battle, try and have Niaz and Corwin kill most of the enemy,
although make sure you stay under 100 turns.
3) When you start the second battle, move Marx to the side of the battlefield
that he starts on, so that Hans has to chase him to kill him. Move Dargen
so that Anderson can't get to him in a single turn. Leave Niaz where he is,
and heal him with Corwin if you have to. Move Corwin far enough to the side so
that he can target Niaz with a healing spell next turn.
4) On the enemy turn, Anderson will charge Niaz and attack with an attack or
two. Hans should go after Marx, but if Marx is at full HP he should
barely survive the attacks.
5) Next turn, Niaz should unload everything on Anderson but KEEP 6 AP to move
to the the side of the battlefield to his right (where Corwin and Dragen
are headed). Move him so that Anderson can just barely reach him. Move Dargen
and Corwin down the narrow passage toward the portal, but keep Corwin within
healing range of Niaz (he'll probably have to heal Niaz at this point).

6) Next turn, Hans will kill Marx, and Anderson will beat on Niaz again.
Move down the narrow passage such that your characters look like this:
|C| Corwin
| |
|D| Dragen
|N|__ Niaz
|
Now Anderson will position himself at the front end of your formation. Each
round, beat on him with Niaz, heal Niaz with Dargen (grass or use revive if
necessary), and heal both Dargen and Niaz with Corwin. You should be able to
hit Anderson with an Icicle Edge every once in a while as well (Wind Shear +
Ice combo).
7) When Niaz builds up to Aura Blade, which shouldn't take long, do a chain
attack with Dargen (Purify), Corwin (Icicle Edge) and then Niaz (Aura Blade +
any other attacks you have AP for). You'll probably finish off Anderson.
8) Now you need to repeatedly use Corwin's Wind Shear and Aqua attack (lvl 1
special) to take out as many enemy soldiers and archers as possible. It
shouldn't be hard, as they are probably packed in a tight bunch behind where
Anderson was. Use Niaz and Dargen if possible to hit the mage with chains and
specials, as he has a lot of HP. You will probably need to still heal with
Corwin and Dargen. This is now a race against the turn clock. Also, make sure
you don't group such that he can hit all three characters with his dark spell,
as it has a cross-shaped area of effect. Try and keep Dargen and Niaz next to
each other so he targets them, as they have a lot of HP.
Keep trying, as this worked for me 4/6 times I tried it (the other two I ran
out of turns).
--b) Battle against Hiro during Historical Point 2
Prep work: Make sure every character has at least a Bracelet for armor, and
preferably an advanced weapon. Do runs through the first three levels of the
Otherworld Gate if you need money or EP. Try to have all your characters at
least level 10.
The goal of this battle is to down Hiro without killing all the other enemy
soldiers. The enemies will not attack you unless you get within their attack
range, so the easiest way to make sure Hiro is not the last one standing is to
ignore (and stay away from) the soldier closest to the corner here:
+------+
start ->|
|<- ignore this soldier!
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|<-Hiro
+------+
Kill all the other soldiers without getting within 5 squares of Hiro. Arrange
your group so that she will charge one person and everyone else can surround

her in one turn. Don't group two characters side-by-side, as her scythe attack
will nail both of them. Try not to group anyone such that her Flamethrower
attack can get more than two people as well.
Then, unload everything you can on her each turn, using Corwin to Heal whoever
she targets that turn. You may loose a person or two, but you should be able
to defeat her. Make sure you are using Chain attacks for the damage bonus!
----------------------------------------------------------------------4) Characters
a) Basics:
Character stats:
STR: Strength - helps determine how much damage you do (contributes to ATT)
END: Endurance - used to determine how many HP you get when you level up.
Also plays a small role in determining your DEF.
IMPORTANT: The HP effect is NOT retro-active!
AGL: Agility - Determines how fast your turn comes up in battle, as well as
contributing to AVD. THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT STAT in the
game for every character!!!!!
INT: Intelligence - determines the power of your spells and defense against
enemy spells. Influences both MAG and MDF.
LUK: Luck - seems to play a role in a lot of things, but it is suspected to
help with drop rate, critical rate, chance of avoiding status
effects, and probably steal chance
Compound stats: These are determined by equipment + stat contribution
ATT:
DEF:
AVD:
MAG:
MDF:

Attack = more damage with non-magic attacks

Defense = take less damage when hit by non-magic attacks
Avoid = greater chance to dodge enemy attacks
Magic = more effective spells
Magic Defense = less damage or effect from enemy spells

Other stats:
Move: number of squares you can move in one turn
Jump: how much of a difference between heights your character can jump
AP: The all-important number. Every action on the battlefield takes AP to
perform. This is influenced by equipment and promotions, NOT character
stats.
----b) "Potential" abilities:
There are a list of these in the manual for the game. These are received at
different levels depending on the character.
A few characters get different potentials if they hold off certain
promotions until you get a certain potential (specifically, Hiro should not
do her second promotion until she gets Accelerate at level 46).
-----

c) Characters by weapon type:

Sword: Niaz*, Meu, Yunellia*, Dargen, Ankrauser*, Tal, Marx, Roze, Scarface*,
Garnet, Luca*
Greatsword: Niaz*, Yunellia*, Luca*, Scarface*, Ankrauser*, Trevor
Shortsword: Nagi, Himika, Rosette, Arthus
Spear: Leila, Nora, Klause, Kurt
Gloves: Vogel, Zhang Khan, Yen, Shiro
Gun: Max, Iglaine, Jed
Breaker: Cuo, Frederica, Shell
Rod: Corwin, Hiaz, Levi, Mick, Choco, Vanilla, Hera, Nell, Yaku Mu
Scythe: Hiro
* = These characters can use both Swords and Greatswords. They can use
skills in either type of slot with either type of weapon (i.e. They can use
a Greatsword skill with a Sword equipped and vice versa).
----g) "Hidden" Characters:
This section is for characters that are not automatically added to your forces
during the true ending plotline. They usually require you play an extra map
that you may or may not have to find using the Search command.
* * *
NOTE: I am assuming that you have cleared all Battle Points and all floors of
the Otherworld Gate before you follow the directions below.
* * *
Name: Himeka
Weapon Type: Shortsword
Starting Level: 10
How to find: After the first Historical Point, clear the first three levels of
the Otherworld Gate with both armies. A new location will open up in Galena,
called Armana Castle Woods. Clear the battle and then go to Lito, where she
will join. (Simba)
Commentary: Himeka is a pretty good dagger-fighter. She also comes with the
all-important Steal skill, which is the only way to get this skill for the
Simba Army. The "Accelerate" potential is icing on the cake.
-Name: Yaku Mu
Weapon Type: Staff
Starting Level: 15
How to find: (After HP2 and before HP3) In Golden, there is a map "Golden Area

Forest" (it's near the middle of the Golden area, kind of southwest of the
lake right in the middle). Clear it and Yaku Mu will join after the battle.
(Simba)
Commentary: Average character at best. High HP, and one of the only staff
users that is decent in melee combat (there are a lot of unique high level
melee staves). Poor AGL means I never really used him.
-Name: Kurt
Weapon Type: Spear
Starting Level: 15
How to find: (Between HP2 and HP3) Clear Battle Point 1 for the Neverland Army.
Obtain imformation in Nivea about where to find Brook Valley. Use the Search
feature in the Guild to discover it. Enter and fight the battle, but do not
kill Kurt. Kurt must survive the battle. He will join after the battle.
(Neverland)
Commentary: The fact that he can ignore height restrictions when moving is a
great benefit in certain maps. Overall solid character.
-Name: Rosette
Weapon Type: Shortsword
Starting Level: 25
How to find: (Between HP4 and HP5) Have cleared all available Battle Points
with the Neverland Army. Obtain location in Helhanpol for the Decayed
Ruins. It should be in the Valhalla area, which is the most northwest
territory you can reach (the same one as houses the Goblin Tower) Rosette
and Nell will join after you clear that map. (Neverland)
Commentary: Very good character, and the best thief in the game. Only way
to get the Steal skill for the Neverland forces. Also their only
shortsword user.
-Name: Nell
Weapon Type: Staff
Starting Level: 25
How to find: See Rosette's description. They join together. (Neverland)
Commentary: Pretty good mage, but Light and Dark never seem as good as the
elemental skills, and the components for the level 3 and 4 skills are a
pain to get (especially Dark).
-Name: Shell
Weapon Type: Breaker
Starting Level: 1
How to find: (Between HP7 and HP8) If following the True or Rozess route,
search just under [eikusueria] lake for a new battle point. Clear it and
she will join you. Note, Garnet must still be alive and well. (Rozess)

Commentary: Not bad, but starts at level 1 in the second-to-last chapter of

the game! She suffers due to the fact that she is a breaker user but
has low strength and could really use a staff to be a good mage. There
are some good spellcaster breakers late in the synthesis list, however.
-Name: Shiro
Weapon Type: Glove
Starting Level: 1
How to find: You must have completed the requirements for the True Ending, or
you will not be able to find the Nameless Temple!!!
(After HP8) Have cleared 24 floors of the Otherworld Gate.
Search for the Nameless Temple in the [Kaiserhorn] area (northern portion
of the mainland). It is on the peak of the lowest of the four left-most
mountains, which are arragned as such:
/\
/\

/\
/\ <----search at the peak of this mountain!

Commentary: Very good character, but again, starts at level 1 and is found in
the last chapter of the game. Recommend use for post-game only. Has
special weapon and armor piece that only it can use, which have incredible
stats!
-----------------------------------------------------------------5) Combo Skills
b) Special combo skills
These skills are formed from the special skills of specific characters. Like
the usual combo skills, they are created when one (or more) charcters uses the
hold command to set up a particular skill, and then another character uses the
complimentary skill as listed below.
Note: You cannot have other skills between the components of a combo!
At present, any name designated by a * indicates a translation of the Japanese
name. These will be replaced with the English names as they become known. The
number after the character's name indicates which level of special skill is
used, so even if you don't recognize the name, the number is accurate.

Thanks go to swift412 for help in getting this list formatted and typing
in a lot of the English names, and pakhavit for providing additional
English names.

-----------------------------------------------------------------9) New Game+

When you finish the last battle in the regular game, it will prompt you to
make a Clear Save. If you then use that clear save, you can start a new
game with the following bonuses:
PP in new game = total amount you end with (unused) + total of all character
levels, divided evenly between each army.
GP and EP in new game = total amount you ended with (unused) plus 10000GP and
1000EP clear bonus, divided evenly between each army.

Items are randomly divided between the armies, and determined at the time of
the clear save (so you would have to fight the last battle again to
redistribute if you don't like the arrangement).
The synthesis chart is filled in further as a bonus.
Anything registered at the end of the game stays registered, and is available
to every army.
Profile and Gallery are carried over.
All Auto Skills are lost but each item that comes with an Auto Skill has the
skill attached again (at level 1) just like it was brand new.
-----------------------------------------------------------------10) Post-game
There are several new dungeons, new recipes, and new enemies to fight if you
continue on from a Clear Save. More details to come.
