1. What is BMI?
BMI stands for body mass index, this is calculated by the persons weight in
kilograms divided by the square of height in meters. Usually for kids and
teens this is considered with the age and gender of the kid or teen. A BMI
scale or calculator helps determine if a kid/teen is under or over weight which
could cause some health problems.
2. How is BMI Calculated for Children and Teens?
To calculate the BMI of a child or teenager you have to measure the persons
height in meters and then divided that by the persons weight in kilograms,
you can use the BMI calculator to help you.
3. Why cant healthy weight ranges be provided for children and teens?
The normal or healthy weight for a person really depends on their gender,
height, weight and age. This makes it very difficult to guesstimate the
healthy weight ranges.
4. How can I tell if my child is overweight or obese?
Usually the BMI is used to screen for overweight or obesity but BMI is not a
diagnostic tool to determine if a child or teen has excess fat see a trained
health professional.
