circulatory system

by: Paige Duncan, Sebastian Zarrehparvar, Mariana Warcholski,

and Hana Ongwongsakul

groups collaboration
Who did what: We all mostly did a little of everything, we did not have major group
disagreements because we wanted to make our project the best we could and all put
in equal work to each part.
How did people contribute: Everyone helped where they were needed.
How did we decide who did what: We didn't really decide who would do what.
People just helped with whatever was needed to be done
Did you leverage strengths and talents of people in your group or was it random
or volunteer basis? Everything was pretty much volunteer basis because everyone
pretty much could volunteer for what they knew they were good at.

Functions of the circulatory system

Delivers oxygen to the cells and removing carbon dioxide from them
carries digested food substances to the cells of the body
disposes of waste products and poisons that would harm the body if they accumulated
helps protect the body from disease
the circulatory system provides a mode of transport for hormones
the circulatory system transports heat (can both warm and cool body)
transport blood and oxygen from the lungs to the various tissues of the body.
The heart pumps the blood throughout the body.
Arteries carry blood from the heart to the body
Capillaries transfer oxygen and nutrients from the blood to the tissues
Veins carry deoxygenated blood back to the heart

model
Functions it shows: The model shows blood being circulated and the differences between
oxygenated and deoxygenated blood and where they are in the circulatory system.
What is not shown: We didnt show waste removal in the blood.
How would we show these: We could show this by having a draining system to remove
part of the water from our model.
What scientific principles did we need to understand to make this: We needed to
understand how the circulatory system worked and what organs were involved.

now show model...

design process

How did you come up with the ideas? We brainstormed and looked up ideas on
youtube to find a project.
How did your group decide on the ideas/plan that resulted in your model? We
decided on the one that seemed the most logical to actually create. One in which we
had the materials and the means to actually make.
What ideas were considered and then dismissed? Why were they dismissed? We
were going to do a project that involved 2 cups and a Gatorade bottle but we decided
it was too simple
What problems did you face in the design process and how did you solve them? We
had a lot a leaks and we used duct tape and containers to stop them
How many times did you have to redesign/test/improve? We had to add more antileakage solutions every time we saw a leak which was quite often.

group management
How was the work managed in your group? Was there a leader? Did you choose a
leader? How? There wasn't really a leader, we all helped out with the building.
How did you communicate with each other about ideas and logistics of building the
model? We created a google doc where we brainstormed ideas
How did you resolve disagreements? We didn't really have any disagreements. We
all decided on the same things.

relation to the real world

How could what you learned during this project, your model, the concepts used in
your model or the design and building process relate to/contribute to/help a real life
situation?
We know how the circulatory system works and how the heart and blood vessels
function. Blood flows from the right atrium to the right ventricle to the lungs then to
the left atrium, the left ventricle, and out to the body

record of construction process

1. Compiled possible projects and ideas on Google Doc
2. Found original idea of gatorade bottle simulating a heart leading into two cups
simulating cells
3. Found new project adopted from last years group
4. Began Building
5. Had troubles with leaks
6. Solved problem using cups underneath to catch water
7. Added another function which was heated and cooled water simulating body
temperature
8. Added board with drawing of the human body
9. Decided to collaborate with respiratory system to make second project
