His Dark Materials: The Amber Spyglass

By Phillip Pullman

About the author: Phillip was born in Norwich in 1946 and lived with
his parents in England, Zimbabwe and
Australia before settling in North Wales.
The first of the trilogy (Northern lights)
won the Carnegie medal in 1996 and the
trilogy conclusion (The Amber Spyglass)
was the first childrens book to win the
Costa award.

Blurb: Will and Lyra, whose fates are

bound together by powers beyond their
own worlds, have been violently
separated. But they must find each other,
for ahead of them lies the greatest war there has
ever been; and a journey to a dark place from
Philip Pullman
which no-one has ever returned.

Why I like this book: I like this book because it

puts the reader's imagination to work, and these
incredible worlds begin to come to life through
your mind. It is also an always changing story
which is what makes it so realistic.
