Climate Change- 2 of the most controversial words you can string together today.

Is it
natural or anthropogenic (man made)? Can we stop it, can the earth handle it?

Climate Change
Climate change are two of the most controversial words you can string together
today. Over time we have slowly increases our use of fossil fuels. As a result of the
burring of these fuels, there is an increase in the amount of carbon dioxide in the
atmosphere. Due to the steady build up of these gasses in the atmosphere, the greenhouse
effect is created. According to the dictionary, the greenhouse effect is the trapping of the
suns warmth in a planets lower atmosphere due to the greater transparency of the
atmosphere to visible radiation from the sun that to infrared radiation emitted from the
planets surface. And in turn, the slow but steady warming of the earth is what created
the climate change.
Scientists have proven that the Earths average temperature has risen by 1.4F
over the past century, and it is projected to rise another 2F to 11F over the next hundred
years Even the smallest change in the average temperature of the globe can cause
large and even dangerous shifts in the average climate, weather, and health of the many
species of animals. According to the National Center for Science Education (NCSE),
differences in how regions are affected by varying degrees of warming, precipitation,
and change of animal and plant species are likely to get even more extreme as climate
change continues If we, as a united people chose to continue the mass burning of
fossil fuels, we will in turn progress the development of greenhouse gasses in the
atmosphere to an extraordinarily dangerous rate. There are many influences over the
Earths climate, which can be distinguished into natural and anthropogenic factors.
Since the beginning of the 20th century, scientists have been observing a change in the
climate that cannot be attributed to any of the natural influences of the past only. This
change in climatehas occurred faster than any other climate change recorded by
humans and so is of great interest and importance to the human population this
analysis was given by the World Meteorological Organization, and provided insight on
weather and climate change being created either by natural or anthropogenic causes.
There are even particles in the air that could be causing climate change. Drew Shindell
conducted some research regarding air born particles, [his] paper further focuses on
improving our understanding of how airborn particles, called aerosols, drive climate
change in the Northern Hemisphere. Aerosols are produced by both natural sourced -such
as volcanoes, wildfire and sea spray and sourced such as manufacturing activities,
automobiles and energy production. Depending on their make-up, some aerosols cause
warming, while others create a cooling effect There are many causes and effects of
the continuously rising temperature of the earth weather its micro air born particles, the
burning of fossil fuels, or even the something as simple as a forest fire.
In the end there is no escaping the climate change, but there are ways to prevent
it. You can perform simple tasks every day to reduce the average amount greenhouse gas
build up, things such as biking instead of using your car, buying energy efficient
appliances, or even creating our own garden and simple eating locally. Many go about
their lives never realizing the ever-growing effects of their continuous disposal of fossil
fuels, which in turn become carbon dioxide gases. And while some people are completely
oblivious, there are large group of people who are worried about global warming. With
the ever-rising temperatures, many have a hard time envisioning what will happen in the
future, how their lives might be effected, and weather they will be able to adapt to the
changes or not. It is also very probable that these people will also worry about how the

weather will effect not only the climate, but also the well being and existence of plants
and animals as well. Though some might not want to address this growing concern, its
obvious that something must be done to prevent this popular issue. I believe that climate
change a very controversial topic due to the fact that it involves not only scientific
evidence, but also personal opinion and beliefs as well. As a nation we need to work to
prevent global warming one small step at a time.
