Motivation and Introduction:

9:00am Greet students


Good morning students, today we will be continuing our work on our
science topic, natural disasters. Today we will be preparing for our
lesson next week were we will be creating our IMovies. Using the
information we gathered from our last lesson, we are going to begin
planning our iMovies. I would like to begin our lesson today by
watching a news video to get some ideas for our own planning.

Where is the reporter located? Are there any clues that suggest
where the reporter is?
What are they reporting?
Can you listen for when they use facts?

9:10am Lesson Steps


As a class, ask students to come up with questions and complete a
class brain storm on the white board.

Use class pop stick picker to choose students to give questions to


encourage the whole class to be focused on the topic.

Leave brainstorm on board to provide students with assistance to

Ask students to join with their groups from the previous lesson

Ask students to choose one member of the group to be the


collector and collect 1 class laptop per group

Ask groups to select another member to collect one task card per
group.

Instruct students to get out the research they had done in their prior
lesson.

Students are to go to their kidblog site (students familiar with) and


follow the link under lesson 3 - link: bubbl.us
9:15am Read through the task card as a class, explaining the task and what
is expected and the lesson objectives.
Students to begin a brainstorm of their ideas for their iMovies on A3
paper
Group members take turns on the computer, one at a time, entering
in the brainstorm into bubbl.us
Class time bomb set at 5 minutes to indicate next group members
turn on the computer - reset for next members turn

Instruct students to begin their planning and set the class time bomb
Walk around room, encouraging students questions and keeping groups
focused on their planning.
What jobs/ roles are each student in the group undertaking? (Camera,
reporter, victim, script writer etc.)
What natural disaster are you reporting?
Whats your news stations name?
What event are the reporting? What will they say about the event?
Where will they be reporting? Scene, location, date, time?
What facts will they give?
Who will they interview?
What was the effect of the natural disaster?
Allow for each member to have a turn (groups of no more than 4, reset
bomb timer 4 times)
Ask students to save their completed bubbl.us and post to class Kidblog
along with group member names for teacher to assess.
Extension:
Groups who finish early can add pictures to their Weebly.

Lesson Closure:
Ask one student from each group to share with the class, what natural
disaster they are doing and what event they are reporting about.
Discuss with the class the lesson objectives, focus on students thoughts
towards bubbl.us

Instruct students to return to their seats as two chosen students hand our
peer review assessment sheets.
Students are to complete these peer reviews about each student within
their group, assessing their group work skills

Transition:

Ask the same group member who collected the laptop, turn it
off and return it.

Instruct students to fold up with A3 paper brainstorm and place


in one of the group members big trays.

Instruct students to get out their maths books ready for the next
lesson.

Ability to work effectively in groups will be assessed through peer
reviewed assessment completed by each student in regards to
each of their group members.
A good understanding of the ICT tool, bubbl.us, will be assessed
through the final product and the peer review which includes a self
review which will suggest which students have a good
understanding of the ICT tool and the students who struggled.
The ability to pose good questions will be developed on the A3
brain storm activity and during class brainstorming.
