MACHAKOS READY TO BE USED AS AN EXAMPLE OF

INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS OF HEALTH CARE

Machakos County is ready to be used as the guinea pig to showcase the most efficient Programme
Health Systems in the region.

This was discussed today when I held a meeting with the Chairman of the Kenya Medical
Practitioners and Dentists Board (KMPDB) Prof. George Magoha, its CEO, Mr. Daniel Yumbya and
other senior officers of the board and County Health Ministry officials.

I welcomed the board to partner with my Government to make Machakos an example of proper
Health Systems where everything works as per World Health Organization (WHO), international and
local requirements.

To this end, I informed the board that we are in the process of recruiting more Medical Practitioners
for Machakos County.

Prof. Magoha advised that we establish a strong system of recruiting and maintaining health
workers. He advised that we partner with our institutions for them to provide doctors, researchers
and interns. He encouraged partnerships with local universities for residence training.

My goal is to have the Countys ratio of patients to health workers be at international levels, with
commodities, medicines and quality of facilities and care at the highest international levels.

To this end, the county will from next month, start a massive renovation and improvement program
of our 29 health centres and four level 4 facilities.

The Medical Practitioners Board will be visiting health facilities in Machakos County to set
standards, identify problems and to arrest quarks.
I have directed Hon. Naomi Mutie, Machakos Minister of Health and Emergency Services, to
immediately put together a committee that will roll out this ambitious program of attracting health
workers from all over the county and overseas to Machakos.

H.E Dr. Alfred N. Mutua, EBS
