As a freshman, new to the Ronald Reagan spirit program, I respected and looked up to

the Silver Star officers as role models. I set goals for myself to prove that I deserved to be among
them. I have strived to meet and surpass these goals, and I am deserving of an officer position. I
believe I can and will improve the team if selected to be the 2016-2017 Silver Star Colonel. I
will continue to set goals for myself and the team as their colonel, and together we will achieve
our goals. My integrity, perseverance, and leadership experience make me a deserving candidate
for this position. I will continue to prove that I deserve to be a line officer, and I am someone that
younger teammates can respect and look-up to.
High school is a time when students are presented with many choices, but being in
Reagan Dance and having the set goals to be a respected Silver Star line officer has made each of
these decisions easy for me. I have learned how to manage my priorities, place value on the
productive areas in my life, maintain a positive attitude, and make responsible decisions for
myself and the betterment of my teammates. The priceless lessons I have learned from the
directors, officers and follow dancers, although not easy at times, have made me a better
teammate and a stronger individual. I want to be a line officer and have the opportunity to share
what Ive learned and help others be better and stronger.
I have worked hard to improve and grow as a leader and a dancer, especially over the past
year as the Silver Star Jr. Captain. I developed confidence in myself as a leader. When Colonel
Bailey Goodyear was injured last summer, I was in a situation where I needed to step-in as a
team leader. At first, I was hesitant. I had to lead senior dancers as a junior, but I relied on my
willingness to always put the teams needs above my own and to be a leader that the team want
to follow. I successfully lead the senior dancers in a dance with the varsity team at UDA camp
and taught routines during the summer.
During competition season this year, I saw a need to boost the teams morale, after we
had lost two competitions. As an officer, I knew that the other officers and I had to keep dancers
from giving up hope and encourage the team recommit to our team goal despite our previous
loses. We went on to become state champions in the seasons final competition.
Most recently, I was forced to rely on my judgement and strength as an individual and my
perseverance to reach my goals, when 4 of my close friends and teammates decided they would
not continue in the rigorous and time-consuming dance program our senior year. Following along
with my friends and their mentality would have been the easy thing to do, but for me, theres
little reward in doing the easy thing. I made a commitment to the dance program and set goals
for myself. I enjoy dance because it isnt easy; its challenging. I love to dance. I love to teach,
and I love to learn. Im excited about being a senior on the team, and Im ready to work hard.
I learned a lot this year. Im now very confident in my leadership ability. I am a strong,
dependable and well respected leader, keeping the teams best interest as the priority. I know that
I can handle adversity with good judgement and stay true to myself despite others influences.
Outside of Reagan dance, I have gained leadership experience being the Sophomore
Class Parliamentarian, a DECA competitor, serving on the Reagan Student Council and most
recently teaching at my churchs KidsLife and KidsChurch programs.
As a youth teacher, I work with 2nd and 3rd grade students on Wednesdays and Sundays
teaching values, morals and life lessons. Believe it or not, the same lessons are applicable to
leading and teaching as a dance officer; including taking responsibility for our actions, focus,
respect, and hard work.

While involved with the Reagan spirit program, I have participated in the Charmer Pep
Squad, earning the most spirited award at summer camp, the most spirited award in the first
semester, and the future officer award in the second semester. On the Silver Star Drill Team, we
won State Champions my sophomore year. My second year as a Silver Star, I was Jr. Captain and
helped lead the team to another State Championship.
To me, more important than any award or championship, the family of friends we have
gained, the challenges of dance and life that we have overcome and the passionate dancers and
students that weve become is the most impressive and rewarding. These are the experiences,
traditions and lessons that I want to be a part of and pass along to others as a Silver Star line
officer. Thank you for your consideration.
