INTRODUCTION
Finding the one symbol that represents your entire self is not an easy feat. As
college students we are thrust into a world that is anything but familiar to us. As high
school students we are asking to go to the bathroom and just three short months later
were are asked to make life changing choices that define ourselves. This high school to
college transitions becomes the building blocks of our true authentic selves. Throughout
my whole life I have loved and cherished personal relationships. Once I decided to major
in Communication Studies this choice only delivered this skill to me more. College has
given me a range of skills but I have found that opportunity looks a lot like hard work. As
I experienced different courses I found that event planning which facilitates an
environment where people are able to create and maintain personal relationships had
become my passion. In this essay I will explore my true authentic self and passions to
develop my unique brand through the advice from scholarly sources. My brand will
represent my true self but it will always have room for growth.

MY UNIQUE BRAND
As I sat here truly thinking about how to make my brand unique, I could only
think of myself as a developing person. With every new obstacle, I
have to face a range of challenges that I need to overcome. So
instead of fighting or avoiding the obstacles, I have accepted that I
must change with the seasons. With each new season my brand
will change colors representing spring, summer, fall and winter.
This brings a unique perspective to my brand as it is always growing and changing, just
like a tree would in the forest. The tree embraces change, and no matter what adversity it
is faced with, the tree adapts to the strongest blizzards and the hottest summers.
MY AUTHENTIC SELF
My true self is something that I strive for every day. After I found my analogy and
started worked toward my tree vision, I wanted to apply it to my brand. A key feature of
this symbol is that with every season the leaves will change representing my flexibility
and growth. According to Thompson, Rindfleisch and Arsel, (2012) who wrote the article
Emotional Branding and the Strategic Value of the Doppelgnger Brand they warn their
readers that when you create your brand to stay away from becoming a doppelganger. A
doppelganger is a brand that looks a lot like another brand without you intentionally
trying to plagiarize. For example, you enter a bakery shop and love the way they
represent themselves gracefully and use soft colors. As you start to build your brand you
cant help but use their ideas to try and identify yourself. Advertisement is all around us
but the goal according to these authors is to sift through that information and look within
ourselves. According to the Huffington Post (2014) your true authentic self comes from

your skills, talents and wisdom which stems from your core. The brown trunk is in the
shape of a T which is the beginning of my first name. This, like the trunk of a tree,
represents my core which is the most important aspect of my reputation. It stands tall,
strong and confident on the page which empowers my viewers. I once heard an analogy
that has followed me through my college career. Two leaders are building a brick wall
with personnel under them. As you walk up to the first wall you can easily find the leader
who is facilitating the instructions. The personnel must go up to the leader to receive their
next task. As you walk up to the second wall it is impossible for you to find who the
leader is. All personnel are empowered to do their job and fulfill its responsibility. My
core self or T should empower others to not only gain confidence but to lead themselves.
MY PASSIONS
In order to fully understand my brand, I had to clearly define who I am. During a
class lecture done by Dr. Sabbath the class was given a document called Defining Who
You Are by The Globe which helped me unlock my character spirit through connecting
my characteristics with my skills. I feel that I am passionate leader (characteristic)
because I try to empower others to be leaders themselves (skill). Through this I found that
planning events really allows me to empower those that I work with whether it be an
attendee or another event planner. For instance, before every event I do a quick What to
Wear brief before we begin the transition to the banquet. The act of being able to show
my peers the appropriate attire, how to act at a dinner setting, and the art of networking is
a gift in itself. I get to empower those that I am teaching to be successful in this event that
I put together. I am blessed beyond words for the personal relationships that I get to
make. I incorporate this passion into my brand by using leaves. The leaves then begin to
PAGE 7
branch off of my core representing an outreach for personal relationships. Every leaf
will symbolize and unique relationship that I get to make with the people that surround
me.

Introduction
Hello my name is Tiffeny and I am currently finishing up my degree at Colorado State
University. I am a Communication Studies major and I love working with people.
Although I am a military brat, I was born in Colorado Springs, CO. After my dad got out
of the armed forces, we moved back to Colorado which I am proud to say is my home.
Moving around so much has taught me flexibility and change.
Body
My experiences include planning conclaves for my societies that can contain 70-3,000
attendee events. This year we will be hosting our societies in Dallas, Texas so bring on

the heat! I have been really blessed with the opportunities to work with people, harness
my time management skills, and become a dependable figure for my organization. Im
really passionate about meeting new people who come with their own stories and
facilitating a setting that we can all talk comfortably about it. My skills include flexibility,
enthusiasm, group communication, dedication and courage. Having eleven members
below me has taught me a lot about responsibility and being a constant resource for them.
To not only get to know them as fellow collages but human beings. They all have lives,
dreams, hopes, families, and their own set of obstacles. If I can help I truly try to do so
but sometimes a listening ear goes a long way. My overall goal is to become and event
planner or figure that empowers others to network, get to know one another, and make
long lasting relationships, As I grow as a
person I hope that whatever I am doing, I
wake up in the morning loving it.
Conclusion
I heard that you are in the _____ business.
Enough about me, what are you interested
in? I hear you like football!
