Description: 24 Discharge Nozzle(N2)
Reason for Inspection:
Operation notified about the presence of crack on Blowers discharge
nozzle on 9.6.11.
Inspection Summary:
The subject blowers nozzle was visually inspected and
observed about 125 mm transverse crack at pipe connection as can be seen
in the below attached photographs.

Inspection Details (e.g. findings in details, pictures, full description, attachments,


etc):
Upon visual inspection, it was observed that the crack had
initiated from the toe of weld at small bore pipe and propagated transversely upto
the parent metal. The length of the crack is approximately 125mm. Reliability
section is investigating the root cause of cracking.

Recommendations:
Since the required material is not available, we will go for temporary repair as
mentioned below.

Carry out PT and mark at the tip of the crack.


Drill at the tip of the crack to stop propagation of crack during grinding.
Grind out and remove the pad
Grind the crack and make bevel for full penetration butt weld
Weld using ER-70S filler wire
Carry out PT on each pass
Flush the cap of the weld
Provide minimum 2 Gussets for taping.
