Welcome to Miss McAlisters Class

This August your child will finally be a 2nd grader! I know that you
and your child must be excited and nervous for this new school
year, but I want you to know that we have a very exciting year
planned ahead.
I would like to introduce myself. My name is Chandler McAlister
and I will be your childs teacher this year. I have a bachelors
degree from Samford University in Early
Childhood/Elementary/Special Education. This is my first year
teaching. I take my career very seriously as I love to teach
children. I live in Haleyville, AL with my dog, Sophie. In my free
time I enjoy crafting, reading, and spending time outside. I am
originally from Dallas, Texas. I cant wait to meet you and become
a part of your childs education.
In our classroom your child will participate in whole group, small
group, and individual instruction in reading, writing, math, science,
and social studies. They will also be involved in independent
reading and math centers with opportunities for hands on
activities on a daily basis.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact
me at (469)767-0990. We can talk over the phone or set up a
meeting at the school. You can also visit our classroom website at
______________________ or send me an email at
______________________.
Below you will find some important information that may answer
some of your questions before open house. I am looking forward to
a wonderful schoolyear with your child! See you soon.
Miss McAlister

Open House
Open House will be on _____________. I cant wait to meet you. I am asking if
it is possible to bring all your supplies that evening. I will have time to sort
supplies before the first day of school saving us a lot of valuable time.

Transportation
Please make sure your child knows which mode of transportation he or she
is taking home. For safety reasons, I will need written notification before any
change can be made to their mode of transportation home.

Daily Communication/Agenda
I will communicate with you daily through your childs agenda. Homework
will be written in the agenda. Any necessary notes from the day will be
written on the day as well. Please initial your childs agenda each day. They
are responsible for returning the book each morning.

Weekly Communication
A newsletter will be sent home at the beginning of the week to let you know
about dates, what we are learning, and more. A folder will be sent home
every Thursday with graded work and other important information.

Volunteers
At open house you will have the opportunity to fill out a volunteer form if
you are interested in serving in our classroom.

Money:
Please place any money that is coming to school in an envelope labeled
with the following:

Childs first and last name

Teachers name
Amount enclosed
Purpose of money (field trip, book order, fundraiser, etc.)

Homework:

Your childs homework will be written in their agenda nightly. In 2 nd grade

there is limited homework. It will mainly consist of reading each night for a
specific amount of time and possibly a worksheet to reinforce what we have
done in class.

Birthdays:
Treats for birthdays are welcome. However, make sure you have brought
enough for everyone and that you have included the supplies needed to
serve the treat (spoons, cups, forks, etc.)

Thanks for reading! I look forward to meeting you and your child at open
house! Have a nice rest of your break!
