What is ISM?
Ism stands for Independent Study Mentorship.
This course is provides an opportunity for an in-depth study of a career at
a professional/collegiate level with the guidance of a mentor.
Requirements for ISM:

o Meet with your mentor 2 hours a week


o Complete an activity/journal log every week
o Create a final professional final product that shows a deeper
understanding of your topic
o Update a weebly website with all of your daily activities

What is my project topic?


Music education (specifically
mentoring an oboe teacher)

works and how it is taught to
others
I chose this topic because I
have done band for 6 years
of my life and music has
been a big part of it

How Music Effects People


Music evokes emotions from people- it
can make us feel happy or sad.
Various levels of noise help improve
creativity
Different music choices define our
personalities
Music lessons and training can
improve motor and reasoning skills
Classical music at times increases
focus and visual attention
Music can improve exercising habits
while at the gym or running

Product: Song
Composition
The final product is a composition of the song Surrender by
Cash Cash. Its written into four parts and is completely
transferred to be instrumental.

In Conclusion, I would like to say this project has been an eye opening experience for me
I have learned many things about music such as:
Its history
Development
workings behind composing a song
Being around a professional helps me actively engage in learning about this field.
