how-to-make (include precautions)
1) take a cardboard box (dimensions:
2) paint the 5 inner walls in black.
3) paste a white sheet on the 6th side of the box (This is where our image will be formed)
4) pierce a hole of size, say 3cmx3cm (on the face opposited to 6th side, so that the light rays will
enter through this hole) exactly at the center.
5) place a single layer of Aluminium foil (and stretch it tightly to avoid any foldings) over the hole.
6) pierce a very small hole on this aluminium foil using a safety pin or a divider.
7) at few centimeters from this hole, pierce another hole so that you can place your DSLR camera
and observe the images formed by pin hole camera
8) We get the best results if we observe the images on a bright sunny day
Determining the size of pinhole:
The formula proposed by Lord Rayleigh, revised so that the result gives the diameter, not the radius,
can be written as follows:
d = 1.9*sqrt(f*l);
d pinhole diameter
f focal length
l wavelength (usually the wavelength for yellow/green light 0.00055 mm is used)
So, calculations reveal that d = 0.5mm
