Star Trek T-Shirt

I created the Star Trek t-shirt design in Photoshop by placing a silhouette
of Spock and a picture of the universe onto a white t-shirt template. I then placed
the universe layer behind the silhouette and deleted the black portion of the
silhouette. This resulted in a universe Spock silhouette. I was very satisfied with
the result. This was a relatively simple assignment and I would recommend it for
next year.
2. Quickfire Design Challenge Logo
My Quickfire design challenge logo was designed in illustrator by
converting a flame image from pixels to vectors and then placing it on top of the
word Quickfire." My logo didn't turn out as well as I would have liked, mainly
because I'm not as comfortable in illustrator as I am in Photoshop. I would
recommend this assignment for next year to better familiarize the students with
both programs.
3. Vans Shoe (Hand Drawn)
This assignment was a very creative one but I had trouble coming up with
an original design. Im not the best artist and couldn't find colors that blended
well. I finally came up with an idea, though, and hand-drew it onto a shoe
template. Deciding what to draw was the most difficult part. I wasnt very satisfied
with my result but next years class would probably enjoy this project.
4. Vans Shoe (Photoshop)
This portion of the project was brilliant because it taught me how to
transfer my hand-drawn design into something cleaner on Photoshop. I ended up
changing my original colors to brown hues that represented Arizona more than
the crazy, vibrant colors of my drawing. I used the magic selection tool to select
elements of my drawn picture and copy them onto a Photoshop template which I
could trace over. Then I used the paint bucket tool to fill in the colors. I was more
pleased with my Photoshop shoe than my hand drawn one and would
recommend this for next year.
5. Personal Logo
I had a little bit of trouble with this assignment because Im not as
comfortable with illustrator. I originally created a logo with my whole name and a
sunset but it was way too busy. I simplified my logo to include just my initials with
a flourished shape. This assignment wasnt very interesting so I wouldnt
recommend it for next year.
6. I am CTE Poster
I completed this assignment very fast so it definitely didnt turn out as good
as it could have. I had difficulty deciding how to blend the pictures. I originally
tried the Photoshop magic eraser tool to erase unnecessary background to the
CTE pictures but it didnt turn out very neat. I ended up using the lasso tool but

the poster was still pretty ugly.

7. Webcam/Self Portrait
This was probably the most challenging project of the semester just
because I spent so much time on it. I really wanted it to be as detailed and
realistic as possible so I used incredibly small brushes in Photoshop and
adjusted the eyedropper color very frequently. The outcome was very rewarding
and I was incredibly satisfied. I would recommend this for next year.
8.National Park Poster
I was rushed to finish this assignment so it didnt turn out as well as I
would have liked. But I did enjoy the opportunity to research National Parks and
create a poster in Photoshop. I would recommend this for next years students. It
wasnt very challenging but it was interesting.
9. Seed Packet Design
I enjoyed this assignment and was very satisfied with my result. I love
gardening so it was fun to design a seed packet in Photoshop for my favorite
flower, the sunflower. I placed several vintage sunflower pictures onto my
template and adjusted the hue and saturation so they looked even older. Lastly I
added a few flourishes and all the sunflower growing information in a curly, yet
legible, font.
10. Video Game Case Design
I had a lot of fun blending web pictures in Photoshop to create my video
game design. Since the title of the game was Death-Defying Dodgeball
Domination, I placed a variety of colors of dodgeballs onto the front of the case.
The largest dodgeball was orange with a reduced-opacity sun blended on top.
Lastly, I added smoke to the background. The combination of these elements
gave my case an otherworldly presence. Next years classes should definitely do
this assignment.
11. Set of Stamps
This assignment was really interesting. I think the most challenging part
was coming up with nine pictures that represent a common theme but also
complement each other without making the set too busy. I chose the theme of
literature. While I liked each stamp separately, the set as a whole was too busy
and almost overwhelming to look at. I did have fun with this Photoshop
assignment, however, and would recommend it for next year.
12. CMT Logo Design
I really enjoyed this assignment. I love combining images in Photoshop to
create new designs. To represent CMT programs, I started by placing a camera
lens in front of a white flower. I blended the images to make the lens seem like a
natural center to the flower. Lastly, I added the words Communication Media
Technologies in a curved font. This project was just challenging enough to make

it interesting and I would recommend it for next year.

13. Personal Stationery Set Logo
All of the Personal Stationary Set elements I created in Photoshop. For
the logo, I took my initials and crafted them into a fancy design to represent
myself as a graphic designer. The logo turned out mediocre but I felt like Id
already created multiple assignments doing similar things with my initials. The
assignment wasnt very challenging so it gave us easy points but I dont think Id
recommend it for next year.
14. Personal Stationery Set Business Card
I created the business card in Photoshop by transferring my personal logo
into a new document size 3.5x 2. I then added my name, address, phone
number, email, and web link. This was probably the most difficult portion of the
stationery set but was still very easy and straightforward. However, it is a good
skill to learn that I might use in my future career. This is the only part of the
stationery set I would consider recommending for next year.
15. Personal Stationery Set Letterhead
My letterhead was created as an 8.5x11 document in Photoshop. Once
again, I added my personal logo in the top corner, along with some basic contact
info. I included a fancy flourish at the bottom to spice the page up a bit. I wouldnt
recommend this for next year.
16. Personal Stationary Set Envelope
The envelope was the last element of the personal stationery set. It was
fashioned in a 4.125x9.5 Photoshop document. One last time, I added my
personal logo and contact info into the top left corner, as the return address. I
added the same flourish as the letterhead along the edge of the envelope but
adjusted the opacity so that it wouldnt dominate my personal logo. I wouldnt
recommend this for next year.
17. Animated .gif sprite
This assignment was completed in Photoshop by separating pictures from
a sprite layout and creating an animation timeline to create a character
animation.gif. It was initially challenging trying to learn how to operate the
timeline functions. But overall, I was satisfied with the outcome and recommend
the assignment for later years.
18. Personal Animation
I found this project very daunting at first because of the length of
animation that was required. Once I had a few slides done, the rest came pretty
easy. However, I was rushed to complete it and not satisfied with the product.
Maybe in future years the assignment should be simplified to designing a shorter
animation. It was a good experience to learn how to use the timeline and
animation tools in Photoshop.

19. Design a Cereal Box: Digital Layout

The digital layout of my cereal box design was created in Photoshop and
was a very fun, yet simple project! The hardest challenge was coming up with an
idea and making the design look like a realistic cereal box that would catch the
consumers attention. I placed a lot of outside images onto my template and most
of my texts included strokes and drop shadows to really make the words pop. I
was very impressed with how realistic mine turned out! CMT should definitely do
this assignment in upcoming years.
20. Design a Cereal Box: Printed & Displayed
The printed and displayed portion of the cereal box assignment was
relatively straightforward because we already constructed the digital design. It
was important to resize the image to fit on the paper, but once that was done and
it was cut out properly, only gluing was left. I liked this part of the project because
it gave us a real and tangible product of our work. CMT should do this next year.
