Pre-Assessment of Students
The teacher will say and write on the board a sentence
such as I walked to the kitchen quietly. Then the
teacher will ask the students what the adverb is.
Modeling of the Concept
An adverb can tell about a verb by telling how
something happens.
This type of adverb often ends in ly.
Examples: carefully, beautifully, and loudly
The teacher will put the worksheet Adverbs That Tell
How on the View.
The teacher will do number one as an example.
Transition
The students will come to the carpet to participate in the
worksheet activity.
Guiding the Practice
The children will continue with number 2-6.
Taking turns, children will come up to the board to write
in the correct answer.
Orally, the students will complete 3 more sentences. If
they cant pick an adverb orally, the teacher can write
the sentences from page 159b in the teachers book on
the board.
Providing the Independent Practice
In pairs, children will talk about how they might speak if
they were in a restaurant, on the soccer field, or in a
movie theater.
They will then identify the adverbs they used during
their discussion.
Adaptations/Accommodations for Students with Special Needs
The teacher will walk around and monitor all students,
especially a student with a 504 plan for ADHD making
sure he stays focused on the task at hand.
