tankreliefvalvesIamfamiliarwithareAndersonGreenwood,model931216FAwhichIbelievearestandardintheindustry.Thebody
andbonnetmaterialare316SS.ThesetpressureandMAWPareusuallyaround2psig.Atthislowpressure,itisveryimportanttoattain

Asthesystempressureincreases,theforceholdingthediscintheclosedpositionincreases.Thisallowsthesystemoperatingpressuretobe
increasedtovalueswithin5%ofsetpressurewithoutdangerofincreasedseatleakageinthemainvalve.

Pilotsaregenerallydesignedwithaseparatecontrolforsetpressureandblowdown.Valvescanbesettoopenfullyatthesetpressureand
closewithaveryshortblowdown.

Anotheradvantageofpilotoperatedpressurereliefvalvesisthereducedcostoflargervalvesizes(whichisthecaseinLNGtanks).The
largespringandassociatedenvelopeisreplacedbyasmallpilot,thusreducingthemassandcostofthevalve.

Pilotoperatedpressurereliefvalvesaresuppliedwithfilterstoprotectagainstforeignmatterandarealwaysrecommendedforrelatively
cleanfluidservice(whichistypicalofLNG).
