Corporate Partnership

Dear Friend of CIS,

Would you like to be a part of a school that is making a difference in the
lives of students through international and environmental studies?
Carolina International School is pleased to announce our Corporate
Partnership program. The Corporate Partnership program allows an
organization to financially support Carolina International School. In order
to maintain the excellent programs we have and to make sure our school
continues to thrive and grow. Any company or business, no matter how
small or how large, can be a corporate partner. This program has been
successful at other schools and can bring in some well needed support
for our school. We offer different levels of partnership based on an
amount that is suitable for your company. Please feel free to contact our
Development Director, Lakisha Spears at lakishaspears@ciscomets.com
or 704.455.3847 for more information.
Sincerely,
David Kukielski, Head of School

There is no more noble an partnership than that which goes to nurturing

the minds of our young students. This is a wonderful opportunity for your
organization to join us in developing our students to become the critical
thinkers of tomorrow. This is your opportunity to help shape the minds of
the CIS students that acknowledge their role as global citizens and are
striving to be good stewards of our natural environment. We need you to
help guide the passion of our children in a way that benefits our
community at-large, not just our campus.
Join us in our vision of creating a learning environment that
fosters open-minded creative leaders and not stereotypical intellectuals. These are your future candidates
for hire; your future team leaders and executives. These are our future neighbors, doctors, and lawabiding/law-creating citizens. This is your chance to capture the momentum of growth and improvements
that are taking place right at your back door. Come and inquire about the different levels of partnership for
Carolina International School. All Corporate Partners will receive recognition based on their level of
partnership. Call for a tour or reach out to our Development Director, Lakisha Spears at
lakishaspears@ciscomets.com or 704.455.3847.
Sincerely,
Curtis Ifill, School Board Chair

History
Carolina International School (CIS) was established in the fall of 2004 in Harrisburg, NC as Cabarrus County's first
Charter School. At that time the school hosted Kindergarten through Seventh Grade. The charter was renewed for
10 years in fall of 2014. In 2014 CIS moved into our current campus located 2.5 miles West of Interstate 85 on 82
acres at the corner of Poplar Tent and Cox Mill Rd. The grade levels that are offered are Kindergarten-Twelfth Grade.

CIS Overview
The Corporate Partnership program is dedicated to featuring individuals, businesses, and companies that
support students attending Carolina International School through a unique giving program. Partners enjoy
the exclusive benefit of sharing their products and services with our parents, students, and supporters.
This is an opportunity for Carolina International School to connect with our community. We would like to
help you make your business a success with the support of our students, parents, and our charter school
community.
We are dedicated to our partners and understand the link between business and education. Charter
schools offer alternative means of academic success for students. Businesses look to support education
when they see a value, and know that their contribution is one that can impact individuals and close the
funding gap between what is needed and what is expected.

Mission & Vision

The mission of Carolina International School is to nurture students natural curiosity and joy of learning
while they achieve academic excellence through a challenging, interdisciplinary, international curriculum.
Our students, parents, teachers, and staff help to create a stimulating learning community that develops:

Critical and compassionate thinkers

Confident and open-minded communicators

Resourceful and responsible citizens and leaders of our local and global communities.

Four Core Values

We strive to develop caring and compassionate students and citizens who embody those character traits
most respected in every culture. Hence character development at CIS is immersed in every interaction and
learning experience as a continual school-wide process. The program includes a service-learning
component and actively involves parents and community leaders.
The values that form the core of daily relationships and interactions in our school are:
RESPECT

We will respect others and their property at all times.

We will listen to each other, knowing that we have individual differences that make us unique and
valuable.

RESPONSIBILITY

We will accept responsibility for our words and actions.

We will treat others as we would like to be treated.

SOLUTIONS

We will create a positive environment where problems are met with creative solutions.

SERVICE

We will actively seek ways to help others in our school, our community, and our world.

Our Program
Carolina International School's program continues to deepen and discover new ways for our students to
connect learning to the world around them. Ten years after being granted a charter by the state of North
Carolina, our program is more relevant than ever. Our international and environmental focus provides the
framework for learning to ignite interest, relevance, and significance for learning. Our teachers, staff and
administration continually strive to garner the resources needed to perfect our professional practice, and
thus each individual's access to a high quality education.
INTERNATIONAL FOCUS
We strive to deepen our students understanding of our individual and collective place in the world. The
international framework provides a context to explore educational standards within various cultures and
traditions. These comparisons and contrasts create relevance, interest and understanding. International
education is essential to prepare US citizens for the future. Not only is our world increasingly
interconnected and interdependent, our local communities are growing in multicultural diversity. Our
students must develop a broad awareness of other cultures and the differences that distinguish them. But
they must simultaneously acquire a deep understanding of all that we share in common as human beings
and occupants of a single planet.
ENVIRONMENTAL FOCUS
Global stewardship is our overarching principle. It effectively links our international and environmental
emphasis and conveys all four of our core values: respect, responsibility, solutions and service. CIS
students learn to think and link globally by encouraging actual connections with other cultures; to act locally,
by encouraging solutions and service-oriented action; and impact globally, that through many local acts we
can impact the globe. Our eighty-two (82) acre campus affords our students the opportunity to engage with
beautiful scenery atop a hill overlooking vast expanses of greenery - within an urban zone. Beyond the
beauty, however, students have an opportunity to apply concepts and skills to attain greater understanding.

We have three (3) ponds, wooded areas, and access to a variety of insects and creatures. This allows for
unrivaled opportunities for observation, testing, and written description that cross all disciplines.
TECHNOLOGY
The 21st century is an age of technological innovation which results in schools addressing technology in the
context of global markets. CIS conducts teleconferencing for educational and social connection and
program partnerships. Classroom instruction has state of the art SMART boards and Mimio interactive
technology where instructional connections take place in all subject areas. CIS is a 1:1 laptop school, which
means that every student in grades 3 and above has a laptop computer. CIS also has a computer lab for
technology instruction.

ATHLETICS
Carolina International School hosts a variety of athletic programs throughout the year. Athletics provides
athletes with several benefits including the acquisition of valuable life skills that will benefit them throughout
their lives. These skills are more beneficial than the games themselves, and their impact can be powerful
and transcending. Some of these skills include: effort, hard-work, self-discipline, team work, and time
management. The current athletic programs that are offered throughout the school year are volleyball,
soccer, cross country, basketball, cheerleading, golf, and tennis. These offerings are amendable and based
on student interest from year to year.

FINE ARTS
Education in the arts is an integral part of the development of students. Fine Arts is essential to the
education process. Arts education refers to education in the disciplines of music, dance, theatre, and visual
arts. Study in the arts is integral to our society. Education and engagement in the visual and performing arts
are an essential part of the school curriculum and an important component in the educational program of
every student at Carolina International School. Study and participation in the fine arts is a key component in
improving learning throughout all academic areas. There exists abundant evidence of effectiveness in
raising student attendance, developing better team players, fostering a love for learning, improving greater
student dignity, enhancing student creativity, and producing a more prepared citizen for the workplace for
tomorrow. The fine arts also provide learners with non-academic benefits such as promoting self-esteem,
motivation, aesthetic awareness, cultural exposure, creativity, improved emotional expression, as well as
social harmony and appreciation of diversity. CIS offers students theater arts, music, and art classes.
