Annotated Bibliography on Domestic Violence

Cosimo, S. Deborah (2011). Domestic Violence : Legal Sanctions and Recidivism Rates among
Male Perpetrators.
Deborah Cosimo the author of this book is a program analyst for the Department of
Health and Human Services and has worked for the government by counseling domestic
violence offenders and this tells us that she knows a lot of this topic and also has talked to
offenders about their situation. This books talks about the sanctions men should have due
to domestic violence. It also talks about different sanctions like probation and jail and
even have a civil protective order where they are not found guilty. This is unfair because
no human should be left with no punishment after causing so much damage physical and
emotional to another person.
National Center for Victims of Crime. (2010). Domestic Violence. Retrieved February 9, 2016.
This article talks about the statistics made in 2010 about how many

woman and men

were killed by their couple and how many were incredibly injured. This article talks
about teen dating and how even couples at a younger age can start using violence against
their significant other. The center for victims of crimes explain what domestic violence
and its interesting and helpful because they gave a few advices to those affected or the
victims and where to go in case the person reading it is the affected one. Also its a good
article because it shows how you can find some places where you can look for help for
the abuser and how to change their violent behavior by going to therapy or with a
psychologist.
Mason, T., & Keeling, J. (2008). Domestic Violence: A Multi-professional Approach for
Healthcare Practitioners. Maidenhead, England: McGraw-Hill Education.
This book talks about the intervention alcohol can make to the abusers attitude and the
different type of treatments they can use to try to change their behavior. Also about the

relationship conflicts and how they can lead really quick to the first hit. This books also
talks about all ages it can occur, like partner violence, child abuse, teen dating or
adolescent violence, old people violence or lesbian and gay violence, which is interesting
because society thinks domestic violence only happens in the adult generation. It also
talks about the victims or as they called them survivors of this violence and how they
can feel protected afterwards.
Sampson, R. (2007, January). Domestic Violence. Retrieved March 18, 2016, from

The author of this book persuades couples to have a safer relationship with their partner
and talks more about laws and the police or any law enforcement getting involved
because domestic violence is part of the social disorder going on in our country. They talk
about the problems of domestic violence like going from a discussion to homicide. This
article also considers part of domestic violence the fact of stalking a person and not
letting them live a private life. Also its rare but the author says that there is more reports
to the police or friends or family of the victim having to deal with a simple slap, push or
abuses that are not as worse as many of the damages the abuser can cause like probably
punching them until they have bruises or using weapons.

In this video whats occurring is that a guy who works at a shelter is going to interview
and talk to a woman coming in being beat up by her husband and the guy knows shes
been on the shelter 6 or 7 times already and how he can notice any psychological
problems by her body language and her behavior. He says that he has to listen to the
husband and the victims story or opinion of the situation. He also asks her about a
timeline and why does she think he had to beat her up and she just answered that the

reason were always because the husband thought she was dumb. They talked about their
problems in the relationship and their past before they would date and he says that any
problems in their family in the past that they havent gotten over it lead to violence
towards each other.
Summers, R. W., & Hoffman, A. M. (2002). Domestic Violence : A Global View. Westport,
Conn: Greenwood Publishing Group
This book I think was part of my favorite ones because it talks of an overview of
domestic violence worldwide and its also very interesting to read because it talked about
different cases in the world and they explain them exactly how they happened. But the
one that caught my attention the most was the one that happened in California when in a
neighborhood a lady saw a woman running on the street screaming her husband was
going to kill her. Another neighbor let the woman in her house and the husband started
running after the house where the woman got in. He had with him a gun and got in the
house and started following the wife and fired until the weapon was empty of guns. This
book not only talks about the tragedy occurring in the relationship but also about the
trauma the child in the family can have and how it also leads to child abuse.

This video talks about the statistics of women and men who suffer from domestic
violence. This video talks about the evolution of domestic violence and how its
becoming worse and also are impacting the next generations and even making next
generations violent or thinking its ok to hit a person. Also I liked this video because its
showing hope to victims or abusers by showing how one person or even both in the
relationship can stop this abuse and heal their problems and eventually try to make

everything fine. Its alerting relationships going through domestic violence that its never
too late and there are still solutions to their problems.
Domestic Violence: Which Way Out? [Video file]. (1994). Filmakers Library. Retrieved March
21, 2016, from Filmakers Library Online.
This video is about a woman and men, a marriage who suffered from domestic violence
because the husband thought he had control over her for the simple fact that she was his
wife. They also talked about the woman being scared of telling people about their
problems. She said her biggest fear was for him to go to jail or have any problems in his
life with the police. Many women have the idea that they still care to much about their
couple that they put them even first than them and they dont get people involved and
obviously they wont get the men in trouble so they prefer not to stop the man and stay
quiet with the damage.

(2015). Domestic Violence and Protecting Children : New Thinking and Approaches. Retrieved
from http://www.eblib.com
This books gets the children from the families more involved because it talks about their
damage and many questions theyll have by growing up in an unstable family. They also
talk about intervention from foster homes or any close family member trying to take the
child away until things become better. They also talk about social workers or even check
if the kid has goof health or if he needs to see a psychologist especially if hes already old
enough to know whats right or wrong. I think this type of research is very important
because not many people consider the children in this unstable family or relationship
because the parents only care about fixing their problems.
Palmer, S. (Ed.). (2015). Federal Action on Rape, Sexual Assault, and Domestic Violence. New
York, NY, USA: Nova Science Publishers, Inc.. Retrieved from http://www.ebrary.com

This book talks a lot about the violence against woman and describe how is bad. They
integrated more the fact that there is also violence towards the men or young boys. They
also think that the reason why domestic violence occurs is because some part of the
abusers where survivors of rape so they are probably letting go their fear or sadness
against another person. I dont think its fair that someone else is suffering for someones
psychological trauma especially if they are your couple because you are supposed to love
them and never put them in danger.
Wendt, Sarah; Zannettino, Lana (2014). Domestic Violence in Diverse Contexts : A Reexamination of Gender. Retrieved from http://www.eblib.com
This book talks about the different kind of women who suffer from domestic violence.
There are many people and they talked about lesbian domestic violence, about rural
women who speak less than anyone else because in their own little town is harder to seek
for help. Older women are also part of this violence and there are still seniors who are
victims and abusers even if they are too old the violence continues. Also there are many
women with disabilities like a wheelchair or special accommodations who can hardly do
things by themselves, and they discussed about men taking advantage of their disability
and the problem that they cannot stand or do many things and they get beat up more than
a regular woman.
Newman, Chris; Iwi, Kate (2015). Engaging with Perpetrators of Domestic Violence : Practical
Techniques for Early Intervention. Retrieved from http://www.eblib.com
This book talks about techniques that can be done in order to prevent at an early stage
domestic violence. They talk more about preventing really early s tragedy or even a
homicide from many evil men. Many ways are taking anger management classes if the
damage is not as severe anymore or going to therapy if there is something worse. Another

thing they discussed are how to formally interview the victim and abuser in order for
them to trust you and for them to tell you what happened in the situation but that only
happens in severe cases.
Groves, Nicola; Thomas, Terry (2013). Domestic Violence and Criminal Justice. Retrieved from
http://www.eblib.com
This book talks about criminal justice and many law enforcements getting involved like
police officers, probation by making the abuser pay for his acts. They also talked about
childrens service and how they can help to take care of the child while the relationship
heals and gets better because we dont want to see any kid growing up in a family where
theres only violence. They also talked about the combination of criminal justice to
domestic violence and how this damage to a partner can lead to homicide or a women
going to the hospital because of so much violence being tolerated in the past.
Mental Health in the Digital Age. (2015). Cary, GB: Oxford University Press. Retrieved from
http://www.ebrary.com
This book talks abou the trauma a women can either be suffering or might suffer in a
future if they dont leave their partner since the first hit. They added something unique
that I never thought about and that is the internet gaming and how most of the
videogames are violent to either a men or women and many people think its okay since
its ocurring in a game. Also another thing new part of domestic violence is cyberbullying
and stalking a lover by probably threating them or scaring them by saying something
might happen like the abuser searching for the victims adress, or threating them that they
will find the victim to punch her or slap her.
