Logos
Description:
Three logo variations, for different print templates, for a fictitious company.
Date:
20 February 2016
Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 (02)- Ben Pingel
Program(s) Tools:
Adobe Illustrator
Objectives:
Create one logo in different formats to fit full-bleed color pages, greyscale, and
web banner.
Process:
I sketched out the design of the logo freehand first. I created a black rectangle
and placed the white TGF text on top. After creating an outline in the text,
I divided each shape that remained and gave them a color within my splitcomplimentary color scheme. I added music beneath the logo and then
grouped everything together. For the greyscale version, I simply made the
colors varying shades of gray. For the web banner version, I added a black
border on top and bottom, with music in white text against the black backdrop.

Objectives:
Create a full-bleed event ad using only Microsoft Word and a scanned image
from a magazine.
Process:
I scanned an image from Golf Magazine and placed it in Microso Word. I
added a yellow border around it. I created a large sphere that is partially visible
on the page. I then added a green gradient to the background. I added the
white text for a good contrast and created the logo using shapes and letters in
Microsoft Word.

Brochure
Description:
A trifold brochure for a fictitious home carpentry company.
Date:
26 March 2016
Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 (02)- Ben Pingel
Program(s) Tools:
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe Photoshop
Adobe InDesign
Objectives:
Use the three above-mentioned programs to create an informational brochure.
Has to include: one cut out image, and a text wrap.
Process:
I created margins for a trifold brochure and sectioned them off into different
parts of the advertisement. I doctored each photo in Photoshop before placing
them, and created the logo in Illustrator. I used the Quick Selection tool in
Photoshop to cut out an image of a worker and then wrapped text around it. I
used Paragraph Styling to create a consistent format throughout the brochure.

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 (02)- Ben Pingel
Program(s) Tools:
Adobe Photoshop
EPSON digital camera
Objectives:
Showcase my Photoshop skills for a hypothetical future employer requesting a
sample of my work.
Process:
I took a picture of this thermos, adjusting the levels and vibrancy to give it a
more poppy appeal. I increased the levels in the cyan and yellow elements,
and sharpened the features. I remained within a primary color scheme, creating
blue and off-white rectangles as backgrounds and red borders.

Program(s) Tools:
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe InDesign
Objectives:
Create the front and back of a business card, including basic contact info.
Process:
I created the logo in Illustrator using the pen tool and bending the lines to make
a guitar pick. I divided the sections and fit the text into it, with enough space for
a green line to shoot out of it. I continued the path of the line and then began a
dotting pattern in InDesign, and formatted all appropriate text around it. I fit this
all on a standard business card size.

Objectives:
Create a letterhead to match the business card, including the same logo and
contact info.

Montage
Description:
A spiritual montage referring to Gods love for His children.
Date:
13 February 2016
Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 (02)- Ben Pingel
Program(s) Tools:
Adobe Photoshop
Objectives:
Create a montage with a spiritual message and no hard edges.
Process:
I edited the photo of the barley field, sharpening the features and upping the
vibrancy. I used the Quick Selection tool and the brush tool to edit out the
silhouette of the man and child and placed against the image. I brushed out the
hard eges of the new picture to create a more flowing image. I then created
the text with appropriate contrast.

Flier
Description:
A flier for a graduate leadership conference.
Date:

23 January 2016
Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 (02)- Ben Pingel
Program(s) Tools:
Adobe InDesign
Objectives:
Create a black and white flier with a stock photo and given text, employing all
required elements with a nice general flow.
Process:
I downloaded the image, logo, and text and played around with positioning
until I found a format that I liked. The original was black and white, but in
creating the portfolio I added a little blue to it. I chose to emphasize that it was
a Conference, and so I put that against a blue rectangle. The website, which
provided more information, was also set against blue. I also used varying
shades of gray for variety.
