MBA CAPSTONE PROJECT:

EMPLOYEE RETENTION
Otterbein University MBA 6990 |
Course Introduction

The Client

Limitations

The MBA Capstone Course is designed for

students to gain experience working with
clients to solve real time business problems.
The course challenges students to apply all of
the knowledge and skills obtained throughout
the program, as consultants.

For this project, students are working with

Central Ohio Primary Care Physicians (COPC),
the largest physician owned medical primary
care company in the United States.
Throughout the project, key decision makers
of the company have met with the class to
discuss the problem to be solved and review
the direction of the class recommendations.

When working with a client, there are always

limitations to what is feasible and what is not.
As a consultant, it is important to recommend
solutions that fit within the structure and
culture of the organization. Without this fit, the
recommendations may not be able to be
implemented,

The following Functions have been handled by

the team:

Project Plan,
Project Organization,
Communication Plan,
Document Management,
Brainstorming,
Business Case,
Quality Assurance,
Project Presentation,
Project Write-up,
Status Reporting, and
Outside Research.

The class was broken into four teams:

Executive, Research, Brainstorming and Final
Project. Throughout the semester, cross
functional team collaboration has been
executed to create a final paper and
presentation outlining and backing up
recommendations to the client to solve their
problem.

THE PROBLEM
Due to nondisclosure
agreements with the client,
details of the project cannot be
disclosed.
However, in general terms, the
project involves creating
employee retention solutions
that would, in turn, improve
patient care.

In order to come up with recommendations for

the client, the team used the following
methods:
Analysis of client current practices and
documents,
External research,
Survey,
Focus group.

For example, because COPC is 100%

physician owned, the company is very
decentralized. This provides some limitations
for the
team to
recommend highly
standardized corporate practice solutions.
However, knowing this limitation will allow the
team to recommend realistic solutions to the
client.

Outcome
The project outcome will include 42
recommendations broken up into 11 areas of
focus.
The recommendations will be presented to the
client in a detailed final paper as well as a
professional presentation on April 25, 2016.
