Title of Project *
Fill the Shelves with Guided Reading Sets
Description of Project *
Because our school is only in its third year of operation, our library is
suffering with few books. We are trying to develop our collection with
books that will be beneficial to students and teachers. One area in which
our students at Saddle Ridge struggle is reading. We know that guided
reading is very beneficial to students to help increase their reading
fluency. We want to have a well-stocked guided reading library for our
teachers to be able to use to conduct their guided reading groups. We
feel that if students have a variety of books to read during guided
reading, they will be interested and increase their reading fluency. These
guided reading texts that we have chosen will help expand language
knowledge, vocabulary, and disciplinary knowledge. Guided reading
allows for thinking, discussing and deepening comprehension.

The Cost
Please provide the amount requested as well as a description of how the funds will
be spent. You may attached a detailed title list if applicable, but it's not required at
this point. If awarded, confirmation that funds were spent according to the project
outline will be required. Projects ranging from $500 to $20,000 have been funded in
the past.
Total Amount Requested *
$15,940.00
Description of how funds will be spent *
Funds will be spent to buy guided reading sets for grades 1, 2, and 3. We
have chosen 3 sets from Heinemann - Fountas and Pinnell Grade 1
Collection, Grade 2 Collection, and Grade 3 Collection. These collections
are sets of books for levels A-Q. There are a total of 520 titles in sets of 6
books each.

The Story
We want to know your school and students through this part of the application.
Please tell us here why you believe in this project and its impact on your students
and school.
A compelling tale of your students and this project. *
Through analysis of test scores, we have discovered that our students
need help with reading. It has been shown that when students participate

in small group guided reading, they get the differentiation that they need
to accelerate their reading level. In these small groups, teachers can see
what each student is struggling with and develop a plan to increase their
reading fluency. These guided reading texts that we have chosen will help
expand language knowledge, vocabulary, and disciplinary knowledge.
Guided reading allows for thinking, discussing and deepening
comprehension. By stocking the media center shelves with a guided
reading library, teachers will have plenty of resources for their guided
reading instruction, and therefore will be able to help students increase
their reading levels.
The Proof
A letter from the IRS designating the school as a tax exempt 501 (c) (3) non-profit.
In certain cases, the IRS will issue an exemption to a larger organization of which
the school is a part (i.e. district). The organizational exemption and a photo copy of
the school's name within the organization's member directory will suffice. Similarly,
a website that shows the school to be part of a larger public school district will also
suffice.
Please note: Do not attach a state (sales) tax exemption form.
