My name is Mariah Luna and I am currently a senior at Sanger High School. As senior year is
coming to a close I am starting to really put my plans into action. During my time in high school
I have broadened my speaking and communication skills, as well as expanded my knowledge
about the human mind and behavior. Because of that, I hope to further my education in
psychology and human sciences.
My life-long goal is to live a life of happiness with a career as a psychiatrist. I had a goal set of
getting accepted into San Francisco State University for the fall of 2016, which I proudly
accomplished. In those four years I will major in biology and minor in psychology. Once a
bachelor degree is in my possession, I will attend medical school for four years, followed by a
two year residency as well as a two year internship to further widen my knowledge.
During my experiences in high school so far, I have exemplified a hard-working and passionate
student. Doing community outreach events with the Life Teen club at school has helped me to
help others as well as be a leader. In school I have taken a biology and psychology which will be
beneficial for my field of study. These classes have taught me about the human brain and its
mental processes, and because of that I will be familiar with the material which will lead to being
a step ahead in my college classes. My participation in debate my freshman year helped increase
my communication skills which will be essential in my career as a psychiatrist because I will be
dealing with patients and other doctors on a daily basis. Being an older sister has definitely
taught me leadership and responsibility. I have learned how to care for others and put others
needs before my own, as well as always being a helping hand for whoever needs it. Knowing
how to care for others will be salubrious when dealing with patients because it will be incumbent
of me to help them. The events I have participated in and things I have learned will all be useful
for my plans after high school.
