1. How long have you been an employed teacher?


Mrs. Brown has been an employed teacher for three years.
2. How often do your students receive social studies instruction?
Students receive social studies curriculum three times a week.
3. Are students pulled out during social studies instructional time? If yes, explain.
Students are not pulled out during social studies curriculum.
4. Are you satisfied with the amount of time that you currently allot for social
studies instruction? Explain.
Mrs. Brown said she is absolutely not satisfied with the amount of time spent on social
studies. She feels it should be paid more
attention to and that the students need to be learning everything there is to learn in the
curriculum to a fuller extent.

5. Are there barriers that might inhibit you from teaching social studies? If so, what
are they?
There are barriers that inhibit teaching social studies. Literacy is looked at as the most
important and is the biggest priority.
The school does not allow much integration and really focuses on the literacy aspect
of things.
6. What do you like about the social studies curriculum? What do you dislike?
Mrs. Brown likes that the social studies curriculum includes relevant things about our
country that are important for the students
to know about. She dislikes that it is not more interactive. She thinks there needs to be
more resources for teachers that involve more

interactive activities for students.


7. Why do you teach social studies? Please explain your response.
Mrs. Brown says she teaches social studies so that children can be aware of the
environment and learn to be good citizens. She also
wants her students to be aware of different cultures so that they are accepting of
others.
8. What resources do you have to support you in teaching social studies?
Resources to help teach social studies include; globes, atlases, learning communities,
online resources, text books- Neighborhoods
Near and Far.
9. What standard are you focusing on during third quarter?
Mrs. Brown said her neighboring teacher plans the social studies lesson but that the
standard she was teaching right then was- I.C.1.2
which involves learning about diverse cultures.
10. What standard would you like me to develop a social studies lesson around?
Mrs. Brown said she would like me to make a lesson that involves he children of
North America and their cultures.
