Guide to Your Babys Senses

See
Your babys visual ability will develop rapidly! In infancy, your baby can detect brightness and can visually track a moving object.
Between the ages of 3-5 months, your babys eye coordination will develop such that they will be able to perceive depth.
Between the ages of 8-12 months, visual acuity, or the ability to perceive whole forms, will develop.
As far as visual preferences go, your baby prefers looking at internal features of faces because they are most interesting, and prefers
symmetry as opposed to asymmetry.

Hear
Your babys auditory abilities began prenatally, at about 7-8 months gestation. With an auditory threshold 4x louder than adults, your baby
can better hear high-pitched voices. Babies have a preference for their mothers voice and can differentiate between vowels and
consonants. At 4 months, your baby will be able to locate sounds and recognize their own name.
During the first year of life, babies can hear phonemes from all languages, so this is a great time to introduce another language!

Touch
When stroking the belly during pregnancy, a kick may have been felt in response this is because your baby could feel touch prenatally!
The most sensitive parts of your babys body are their mouth, palms, and feet. Your baby is sensitive to hot and cold and can feel pain.
