The Mayor of the City of Mineola

RE:

Wrongful Exclusion of Handgun License Holder Complaint - Resolved

Mineola Nature Preserve
OAG Complaint No. 8

Dear Mayor Watkins:

The Office of the Attorney General ("OAG") received a citizen complaint concerning the wrongful
exclusion of handgun license holders from a concert on or about September 25, 2015, at the
Mineola Nature Preserve, under section 411.209 of the Government Code. The OAG understands
this complaint was resolved once the signs were removed after the concert concluded. Therefore,
the OAG is closing this complaint.
Even though this particular citizen complaint has been resolved, the City of Mineola is not excused
from its obligations to follow the laws of the State of Texas and to bring itself into compliance
with all provisions of the law, including when the Mineola Nature Preserve is being used for
special events.
