Extended Lesson 1
1.) Topic and Type: Looking at the difference between history and theatre
focusing on child labor. Lesson in comparing and contrasting different types
of artifacts on child labor.
2.) Content Overview in this class the students will be focusing on comparing
and contrasting skills based off of a play that they will be performing and a
video that covers the same topic, which is child labor.
3.) SOLs
a. English SOL 8.5 The student will read and analyze a variety of
fictional texts, narrative nonfiction, and poetry.
i. F. Compare and contrast authors styles

a. Know: The students will know the definitions of compare and contrast
when it comes to writing.
b. Understand: The students will understand how comparing and
contrasting can give one a different perspective on the same issue.
c. Do: The students will be able to compare and contrast two different
types of works.

7.) Warm-up

a. Essential question based of comparing and contrasting. The students


will write their answer on sticky notes that I will collect once they are
finished.
8.) Closure
a. A final writing assignment that incorporates comparing and contrasting
the two items we went over in class; the play and the video. Along with
the compare and contrast aspect of the writing, the students will also
choose which one they liked better and why they chose that one.
