introduced to them through previous classes.

different powers each branch has through the use of a graphic organizer and internet

Language Objective:
The students will read and discuss in small groups the different powers of the
branches of government

Anticipatory Set (Introductory Approach):
To peak the interest of the students I will begin class with the school house three ring
video;

Instructional Procedures (Whole Group):
I will begin class with the above video.
Once the video is done I will have the students work on a bell ringer question
( What are the three branches of government? What are some of the powers
each branch has?)
Once through with the bell ringer I will assign a branch of government for each
student to focus on within their groups; each group will work on the three
branches, but individually.
o Once the students have been given their branch I will instruct them to
highlight the entire page from their online book and plug head phones in
and have the students follow along as theyre being read to.
o While they are reading I will have the students work on a graphic
organizer that has them list the members, powers, and purpose of their
individual branch
o Once all students in their groups have finished they will fill in the other
branches they are missing through the use of discussion from the other
members
Once the students have finished this task then If time allows, I will discuss with
the class some of the possible things they could have written down
Once discussion is over I will instruct the students to go to this website to play a
game based off of the different powers of each branch:
http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/usa_game/government/branches_government
.htm
The Exit activity is to raise their hand to show me that they received a score on
the game higher than 90%
Provisions for Individual and/or Group Differences:
Students who are ELL are already placed in pods that allow them to work together
with students with similar levels so they will be able to work together. Their online
textbook has a feature that allows the section of reading to be read to them.
Closure:
Wrap up with discussion of different powers that the branches have.
Evaluation of Learning:
I will know how well they understood the information based off their score on the
internet game.
Independent Practice:
SIOP Features:
Comprehensible Input- Read Along Audio Files
