I.
A. Instructional Goals
This lesson will instruct students on how to use the computer program
Hyperstudio while integrating a history lesson simultaneously.
B. Rationale
I am teaching this so my students can learn other ways of executing projects
normally done as reports without technology.
I also am teaching it using technology because I want them to learn about
famous Ohioans
This will also provide accommodations for the following:
Limited Computers in the classroom
Students with disabilities
* Time allotted would probably work best with a block scheduled class, if this is
not possible, you may have to split it up into smaller class periods.
II. Objectives
Students will learn how to use the computer program Hyperstudio.
Students will learn more about famous Ohioans
Student will take turns using computer, especially if computers are limited
Student will create a trading card focusing on bullets from the Ohioans life
Student will include a picture of the Ohioan either from the net or made in
Hyperstudio
*Students may also write out their own objectives

Floppy/zip disks
Audio-visual equipment/overhead used to show a presentation in front of
the whole class
Previous research on famous Ohioan
Search engine google.com, or other search engines on the Internet to find
pictures.

IV.

Procedures

A. Readiness/Motivation for Lesson

Allotted Time: 5-10 min

1. Have students split up into groups, 2-4 people depending on how many computers
are available previous to the lesson
2. These groups will be given time in class previously to discuss, identify and
research a famous Ohioan. Students will be instructed to bring this information to
class.
3. Students discuss and lay down a few simple rules about computer usage, teacher
facilitates conversation.
*Use a created signal to mark end of discussion and beginning of intro to
Hyperstudio
B. Focus of Lesson

Allotted Time: 40-50 min

1. Go through Instructional Hyperstudio handout, allow for questions after ever


step

If there is only one computer, have students follow along in their


packets while teacher goes through process using a projection device
For 4-6 computers, have students split up in to corresponding groups
and choose one leader in the group to click the mouse while the
others watch and follow
In a computer lab, have students pair up to work on one famous
Ohioan.

2. BEFORE starting projects, each student must fill out the Hyperstudio
template/outline and have it approved by the teacher before moving onto the next
step. The outline will be attached to the instructional packet.
Students MUST include on template
o Ohioans name, date of birth-death, where they lived, as well as
a few interesting facts. Each of these will be on a card in
Hyperstudio. Pictures should be included with each card
o SAVE often!!!!!!!!!
o Students can use more than one card if necessary
-For students with one computer, make sure that each student has filled out what they will
put on the slide in the outline before taking turns on the computer putting all the info into
Hyperstudio
-4-6 computers, the same.
-Computer lab, you may want to let students research their project a little longer if there
is enough time and if they need it. Have them fill out the outline as well.
Put the info into the slides on Hyperstudio and find corresponding
pictures.
If students are working on different slides on separate computers, have
them save each slide to their disk and combine them accordingly onto one
computer.
(Signal for moving on- have students save the work immediately)
C. Closure to Lesson
Have students present their slides to the class using the overhead, or have
them visit each others computers to see what each one has come up with.
This can be presented on a different day if needed.
Disabilities
Students with disabilities can execute the same project using a computer using
assistive technology/computing resources. Technologies such as touch screens or
adapted mouses (if they are available) can be used to allow students to accommodate
their needs and disabilities. Also, for students that cannot use their hands, pointers are
an option. These allow them to pinpoint keys using a pointer they put in their mouths to
hit the keys.
