To Whom it May Concern,
During the last year Anglea Smith has partnered with the Metropolitan
Government Archives to encourage the use of the resources available in
local government Archives.
In her work Ms. Smith has partnered with us to demonstrate to her students
the role of historical records within the research community and the general
public. Local archives are still a largely untapped resource that can provide
significant understanding of the historical events that have shaped our
nation.
Under her supervision students in the Historical Documentary Filmmaking
gained an understanding of the considerable untapped resources available in
local archives. Her students used original documents, photographs and
motion picture film to gain a better understanding of the attitudes, customs,
beliefs and social conditions that move to shape public opinion.
She provided creative projects that demonstrated the relevance of archival
repositories and their ability to provide insight into Nashville’s collective
memory.
I would highly recommend her advance to candidacy for the public history
PhD. If you have need of any further information or have additional
questions, please feel free to contact me at 615-862-5880.
Sincerely,
