As you can search in Google, most of the travel websites will tell you the best season to
visit Boston is the summer and the fall. Also, the spring in Boston is beautiful as well.
However, how about travel to Boston in winter? In winter? Seriously? The weather is
chilly! Some People may answer like this. Is the weather really frigid in Boston? For people
who like the cold season, what kind of winter activities Boston can offer? Is winter Boston
worth traveling to?
In fact, the weather is not as bad as many people consider. Compared with Chicago,
Boston is warmer. A down jacket, gloves, hat, and warm boots can handle everything. From
the below chart, you can find the coldest and warmest temperatures in winter Boston.
Moreover, travelers are fewer in this season. Hence, the price of hotels is cheaper.
Regarding transportation, one of the advantages in Boston is the subway system that many

have problems.

Boston is one of the oldest cities in the United States, but it doesnt lack for modern
feelings. It has historical buildings, educational museums, a beautiful public garden, thrilling
theaters, delicious restaurants, and sports venues. Winter Boston is actually good for family,
couples, friends and even a person alone to travel to. If you are not limited by physical factors,
you should make an unconventional winter travel to Boston. There are some activities that
enable you to find the fairy tale in winter Boston.
Here are some outdoor activities for you.

Streetlights

Wei 4

With lights decorations, Boston is absolutely a fairy tale world you want to spend your
holiday in. During the Christmas and the New Year, color lights will be hung up and twined
across the city to celebrate the festival. When the night comes, the lights light up the city. The
whole city is immersed in the sweet festival atmosphere. Walking through the city of lights
enables you to feel the romance. Boston Common, Faneuil Hall, Newbury Street, Copley,
and Common Wealth Avenue are the main places to enjoy the best city lights. Around this
places, there are many restaurants and Cafes options. I recommend you to have dinner or hot
chocolate there. Enjoying the lights, at the same time, enjoying the delicious food and drink.
After gaining the satisfaction of vision and taste, the winter Boston is not chilly anymore.

Wonderland for Ice Skating

Wei 5

Go ice skating in outdoor downtown Boston! What an interesting thing! The public
garden, Boston Common, offers people a place called Fog Pond to skate from
mid-November to the end of March. Surround the city buildings, going ice skating there can
be a different experience. With the elegant brick houses and iced tree branches nearby, you
will feel as if skating in a wonderland. Moreover, the price there is reasonable. According to
The Boston Common Frog Pond website, this place is free for people who under 58 inches
and charges only 5 dollars for those over. The hour is from 10am to 10pm, and there is no
time limit for the tickets. The rental skate costs 5 dollars for a kid and 10 dollars for an adult.
Its a great opportunity for couples, friends, and family with kids to have meaningful
memories. In addition, there is also an academic skate lesson program. It is attractive for
people who have interested in professional ice skating.
Tips: Come with the hot drink that can warm up your body.

Indeed, most of the bus tours, especially the popular Boston Duck tours will stop

see it from the above picture. The bus is really cute! According to the the bus tour company
website, this trolley tour will take you to see over 100 popular historical sights, such as the

Boston without tiring walking. The tickets are good for a 24-hour period, and includes free

Here are some indoor activities that can offer you a warm Boston.

Free Museum Tours

Some museum tours are free and storytelling. Boston is a city with richly cultural
atmosphere. Without visiting a museum, your Boston tour is not perfect enough. Fortunately,
some museums are free to visit during the cold season. The one I strongly suggest is the
Museum of Fine Arts. Someone might think the museum is boring, but this museum is quite
different. The decoration is really magnificent. You will feel like you are walking in a Royal
Palace. The great art there will let you have an imagination about the story behind the art.
You might not have an interest in art, but in this museum, you will feel the greatness and the
power of art. You will gradually find this is a storytelling museum. Furthermore, the
collection is also very broad, from America, Europe, Africa to Asia. Its really attractive for

Wei 8

people who are a big fan of art. They will absolutely stay here for the whole day!

Thrilling Shows in Theaters District

The theaters district gathers the best shows in Boston and always attract large crowds.
Boston never lacks fun. Some locals tell me that it has the largest group of prominent earliest
theaters in North America. If you are seeking for fun in the night, theater district can cheer
you up. The performances include dance, comedy shows, opera, and everything combined.
The popular theaters are Paramount Theater, Boston Opera House, Cutler Majestic
Theater, and Wilbur Theater. Normally, the theater reaches its peak during the winter
season. When the nights come, the beautiful lights sparkle in their signboard. In front of each
theaters door, there is a long line of people waiting for getting in. At that moment, you will
see the bustling Boston. In addition, there are many restaurants nearby that will still open late
at night. After watching the shows, its very convenient for you to have night snack.

Wei 9

Tips:Come there early so you can get in earlier.

Most Romantic View of Boston

The top of the Prudential Center offers the best and most romantic view of Boston.
If you are lucky, it will be showing. Watching the snowflakes flying, your heart cant help but
fill with romance. Maybe even better to view Boston after the snow, you will find out the
Boston like a snow cake. In addition, the price is reasonable. According to the Prudential
center, it costs 16 dollars for an adult, 11 dollars for a kid, 13 dollars for a student or a senior.
Its worth to come here, no matter in the daytime or the evening.

Revel Yourself in Sports

Wei 10

If you are are a big sports fan, you should catch a sports event at TD Garden! A
game at the TD Garden is something you should not miss in Boston, especially when your
favorite team has a game to play here. Go online and check the calendar in advance, so you
can buy the tickets and have a good preparation for it. Especially in the winter, this kind of
passionately indoor activity can make you forget he cold weather outside. Just revel yourself
in the sports. I promise that you will have a good night in Boston.
Tips: The traffic will become extremely busy at that time. Its better to take the subway.
The food in Boston you have to eat!

Boston Lobster

Wei 11

Remember to eat lobsters when you are in Boston!!! Boston is famous for its lobsters
all over the world. Although in cold season the quantity is smaller, the quality remains. Also,
the price is normally affordable. There are many foreign restaurants in Boston that can offer
different types of cooking. The most popular one is Boston lobster roll. As the picture shows
above, normally, it is a sandwich that contains lobster meat in butter. The lobster roll is
cheaper than the whole lobster. I strongly recommend you to have a try!
