Purpose:
The
purpose
of
this
lesson
is
to
introduce
children
to
the
word
motion.
The
children
will
be
learning
about
the
words
push
and
pull.
They
will
then
work
together
to
sort
pictures
on
the
Smartboard
into
push
and
pull
categories
on
a
Venn
Diagram.
This
will
be
done
in
a
whole
group
setting
on
the
meeting
rug.
Objectives:
SL.K.2. Confirm understanding of a text read aloud or information presented
orally or through other media by asking and answering questions about key
details and requesting clarification if something is not understood.
K.CC.6. Identify whether the number of objects in one group is greater than, less
than, or equal to the number of objects in another group, e.g., by using matching
and counting strategies.
K.MD.3. Classify objects into given categories; count the numbers of objects in
each category and sort the categories by count.
S:SPS1:2:1.1 Make observations and explore materials using all of their senses (one
sense at a time).
S:SPS1:2:1.5 Sort and classify object materials and events based on one or more
attributes; and explain the methods used for sorting.

*PowerPoint
presentation

includes
the
definition
of
motion,
definition
of
push
and
pull,
and
provides
pictures
that
the
children
can
sort
on
the
Smartboard
together.
*Easel
*Dry
erase
marker
Procedure:
(Lesson
is
open
to
change
based
on
learner
response/questions)
Introduction-
To
introduce
the
lesson,
I
will
call
all
children
over
to
the
meeting
rug.
I
will
have
them
all
sit
in
a
circle
so
they
are
all
facing
the
Smartboard.
I
will
then
ask
them
the
question,
What
is
motion?
and
record
their
answers
on
the
easel
beside
me.
Once
we
have
recorded
everyones
answers
I
will
then
open
up
my
Smartboard
presentation.

Evaluation:
SL.K.2.- this objective will be met through formal observation of the placement
of objects on the Smartboard. I will have a checklist of students names to
either give them a check for proper placement or an x for improper placement.
K.CC.6. and K.MD.3.- these objectives will be met through informal
observation. I will listen to see if children are counting the number of objects
in each category.

S:SPS1:2:1.5- this objective will be met through formal observation. I will be looking
to see if they place their object into the right category. I will also be listening to their
answer as to why they did that. I will use a checklist to record this.
S:SPS1:2:1.1- this objective will be met through informal observation. I will ask
learners to see if they can come up with something that pushes, pulls, or does both at
the end of the lesson. If they can do this, I will record their answers on the easel and
then take a picture afterwards.
Extension:
