Calculate the area of reinforcement required with an assumption that the


design of T-section is conservative (x : 0.45d).

Figure Q3 shows part of a first floor office plan. All beams and slab are not cast together. A
3 m height brick-wall is constructed along the perimeter of the building including beams
near to the staircase. The beam is inside building with hieh air humidity and designed
secondarily for rarely dry environment. Specification of materials and design characteristics

A continuous slab plan view for a terrace house is shown in Figure Q4. The slab is
supported on beams of size 200 mm x 500 mm spaced at 5.0 m centers. The variable action
in slab is 3.0kN k* andpennanent action is 1.5 LtV-'. The materials used are grade C30
concrete and grade 500 reinforcement.
