EMPLOYMENT
To what extent does technology have an impact on
employment in different parts of the world?
Global Perspective
Employment is the base to a family trying to fulfill
their requirements. Where there is no employment;
there is no earning, leading to poverty. Hundreds
of years of mind-blowing innovations have caused
rising living standards for common people, with no
sharply rising trend for employment.
In this era, employment in any industry is effected
by the introduction of technology that is growing
rapidly over the years. Industries need to make use
of the new technology if their objective is to
increase productivity. The initial result of these
technology introductions is leading to the reduction
of workers to some extent. It is true that
technological innovation has always delivered
more long-term employment, but not without
short-term job loss for those in careers that
become outdated.
Increased productivity is a benefit for business,
though it leads to a decrease in labour demand.
When business grow, it is pronounced that they
need more workers which means increase in
amount of wages need to be paid. So innovative
machines and software are great news for
businesses.
Yes, artificial intelligence and robotics are replacing
people in some jobs, but it is also true that ongoing

technology innovation also creates a large number

of new job opportunities.
India
More than 60% of the poor in India are landless
agricultural laborers and marginal farmers.
According to researches done by the Indian
government, the rural economy in India has
experienced remarkable changes. The introduction
of technology had a great impact in the farm sector
of India bringing spectacular changes.
The new production technology consist of an
extremely complimentary package of biochemical
along with mechanical innovations. These help the
farmers in taking pest and disease control measure
along with using tractors, threshers and many
other mechanical equipment.
Technology seems to be a bright hope for India. In
a place like India; during the 90s women were not
allowed to work and were forced to do house
chores. They would get married at an early age
which would spoil their way of living as a young
lady. But now, because of IT there has been a
noticeable change in the pattern of Indian womens
employment.
Recent observations say that nearly 60% of the
admissions to IT courses in South are girls and
moreover, in academic courses, girls are winning
more of gold medals than the boys. More than 50%
of the employees in the IT sector are women. This
immense presence of women in the IT sector is
bound to have a social impact.

According to Indians, technology hasnt only

unlocked the door to employment but also for
empowerment of women by living economic
independence. Moreover, the girls are getting an
opportunity to chose their own life partners which
may in the course of time contribute to the
reduction of social evils like dowry.
But it appears to be that as a business progress
point of view, the presence of women in the IT
sector has brought some healthy changes. The
rejection concerning women working in third shift
have been eased up and the labour laws have
been revised in many states. The difference
between the wages of men and women is no
longer seen; it is equal pay for equal work. The
boorish feeling of women not being able to have a
career has also been broken. These are all healthy
developments.
USA
Five years after the begin of extraordinary retreat
in New York, USA, the unfavorable impact is
perfectly clear, a great many white collar class
individuals lost their employments in created
nations. The circumstance appears to be more
awful than it has all the earmarks of being.
Other than subsidence, there are individuals are
likewise agonized over the eventual fate of job in
the U.S.
Specialists who study the work business sector say
that the vast majority of the occupations will stay
away for the indefinite future and more
employments are liable to get vanish in the coming

years. What's more, these occupations are nothing

so as to be deleted else yet innovation.
In the United States, a large portion of the 7.1
million occupations lost amid the immense retreat
were in commercial enterprises that pay white
collar class compensation. Yet, just 3.5 million
employments picked up subsequent to the retreat
finished in June 2009 are in mid-pay commercial
enterprises. About 70% are in low-pay commercial
ventures, 29% in the businesses that pay well.
College financial expert in Belgium anticipate that
there will be loss of million more employments as
innovation turns out to be more best in class and
reaches more profound into our lives.
China
In order to catch up with the high innovation of
technology, firms of every developing country
strives to advance technologically. As China having
the greatest economy in the world, firms try to be
more updated and if possible more forward than
the others. Adopting ICT innovations by businesses
to build productivity can do this.
As the global economy and information tide has
brought opportunities and challenges, Chinese
Government has decided to put forward a
development strategy in time. Which is, to make
development of industrialization easier by uplifting
and taking full advantage of technology
innovations, to realize a stride-leap development of
productivity.
China is very dedicated to acquiring technology as
most of the manufacturing industries are situated

in China. This is resulting a huge amount of job loss

to the middle-class. Manufacturers in China adopt
new technology every time it enters the world of
technology, trying to stay updated in order to keep
their firm running.
Employment doesnt seem to be an issue in China
even though ICT is invading their jobs. This is
because in some parts of China people still kept
their traditional work alive and people could still
have jobs there because they dont let the world of
ICT intrude.
Local Perspective
In U.A.E, technology is affecting employment in a
different manner. Individuals are not having an
issue with job loss but businesses are complaining
that technology has changed the way employees
work.
A global study has found that the more office
workers draw in with new advances of technology,
the more stances they will receive after sometime
which might not be supported by tradition office
chairs. A research conducted by a global furniture
company has uncovered that, working with
portable PCs and other cell phones in the
workplace for over six hours a day has changed the
way employees move and change positions on the
seat for the duration of the day. Also, the more
office employees keep on overlooking the way
technology affects their bodies at work, the more
inclined they are to long haul wounds, neck and
back torment and to experience a diminishment in
concentration and innovativeness.

Web advancement, for instance, visit rooms, Skype

and other programming - has made it possible to
hold social events without all get-togethers being
physically present in the same spot. A burden is
that meeting with somebody over the Internet is
significantly less individual than getting together
close and individual. Web advancement in business
reduces the individual piece of business
associations. Experts used to network in
restaurants and on fairways. Today, the
nonattendance of physical proximity decays
conceptualizing and distinctive trades that use an
individual touch.
All these issues could lead to loss of workers in
some businesses as some people would like to
retire because of the health problems their facing.
Personal Perspective
In this century technology is drastically growing
and having a negative as well as positive impact
on the world. Technology is being adopted by every
organization employing workers. As much as its
having a negative impact of job loss its also
having a positive impact by creating new job
opportunities as well.
It is true that people are continuously losing jobs in
developing countries especially in the
manufacturing sector. In the old times everything
used to be done manually, starting from placing
each equipment into the product to the packaging
of the product. But now, robots are taking place of
humans and getting the work done in a faster
pace. This is safer for humans as they wont have
to work in dangerous areas, but most of these

workers are low-class people and they have

chances of not being employed anymore as they
dont have the ability to do any other advanced
jobs that are being created by the new technology.
On the other hand, technology is making life easier
for humans. New softwares are being innovated
which helps businesses to get their work done
faster and in an easier way. There are chances of
getting jobs that involve staying at home and
working. This is a great opportunity for mothers
who would want to stay at home and take care of
their children as well as work.
Technology help employees to get in touch with
each other outside workplace; if they would have
anything important to discuss, through online
logger system software.

Future Scenarios
While carrying out this research, Ive read through
a lot of articles stating that technology is effecting
jobs which leads to people being unemployed
resulting to poverty.
This problem is possibly going to grow in the future
as we can see that technology is becoming more
enhanced day by day. Technology is boosting its
way up like fireworks, every organization now
prefers using technology for more productivity in
their firms. In this case, people losing jobs are
likely not to be employed anymore unless they
have other talents.

As it seems technology will be intensified to the

extent that people will no longer need to step out
of their house or need not get out of their sofas for
their work to be done. But how does this help with
earning. If people need not work anymore how will
they earn a living.
In U.A.E, businesses are confronting problems
because of employees facing health issues
resulting to loss of workers as they decide to qui
the job. This issue needs to be looked into as it
might become a huge problem as technology
keeps improving.
Possible Course Of Action
There is definitely no way to stop the enhancement
of technology because its definitely helping
humans in lots of ways. As everything in this world
have side effects, likely technology does too.
Technology is unquestioningly contributing to the
loss of jobs but it still needs to be adopted by the
world because there have come days that
technology is necessary.
As Ive researched through this issue, Ive seen
that technology has to be a part of our lives so we
cannot stop it from boosting. The only way to help
this issue is to use technology in a limited manner.
Organizations need to identify jobs that can be
better done by humans than any other software or
robotics. Yes, it is true that robots gets the work
done faster, but we should not only consider how
fast the work is done; we should also look into the
better presentation.

Firms could keep workers in sectors where

technology is not necessary, instead of making the
entire organization technical. This would also help
the firm to not spend money on software or
robotics, as they are quite expensive.
Looking more into the issue that U.A.Es businesses
are facing, as mentioned before, they are loosing
workers. Businesses cant help with this issue but
the employees could adopt some changes in their
work place. Employees could do some physical
activity to stretch their body in order to avoid back
and neck pain.
Employees also discovered to be changing
postures while at work, like, stretched out over the
desk and resting weight on desk or reclining and
resting device on thighs. These postures are
affecting their health more and more. Proper
postures are vital to keep up the spines prosperity
and muscle equalization. Employees should try
avoiding these postures and do more of exercise.
Employees could try standing and walking around
more frequently at least every hour, and do a few
minutes of basic stretching. Chair yoga could also
be done in anyplace with constrained versatility
and vitality. A few more exercising tips are; to look
at the rooftop for no less than 3-4 times a day, this
stretches the neck muscles and unwinds them. Sit
serenely and flicker 10-20 times rapidly and after
that close eyes for 10 seconds and extend arms
up, as though reaching out the ceiling.
If these measures are taking as stated there will
not be any problems with the employees unless
they have other genetic diseases.
