ACADEMICFREEDOM

TheCollegeandtheUnionendorsetheprinciplesandstandardsofacademicfreedomin
theAmericanAssociationofUniversityProfessors(AAUP)StatementofPrinciples.In
addition,facultyshallhavetherighttoestablishstandardsofbehaviorintheclassroom,
determineappropriatemethodsofevaluation,assigngrades,selectcoursematerial
whereappropriate,andplanoffcampusactivitiesorothercourseenhancements.

JOBPOSTING

AllnewpositionsorvacanciesshallbepostedpubliclywithacopysenttotheUnitChair
andtotheUnion.

SENIORITY

Seniorityshallaccruebysemesterbeginningwiththefirstsemesterofteachingafterthe
originaldateofhire.Thefirsttwosemestersofteachingareprobationary.Facultyonan
approvedleaveofabsenceshallcontinuetoaccrueseniority.

REAPPOINTMENTS:ADJUNCT/PARTTIME
Facultymembersshallhavepreferenceforavailablevacancies,othercourses,

oradditionalsectionswhichtheyarequalifiedtoteach,onthebasisofseniority,
beforetheCollegehiresanyadditionalfaculty.

Adjunct/parttimeFacultywhohavetaughtforaminimumoffoursemesters
shallnothavetheircourseloadreduced.

TheCollegeshallgivegoodfaithconsiderationtotheapplicationsofparttime
facultyforfulltimepositions.
REAPPOINTMENTS:TERM/FULLTIME
FACULTY

Term/fulltimefacultymustbenotifiedofnonrenewaloftheircontractbyno
laterthanJune30oftheyearbeforetheirtermends.

Theminimumappointmenttermshallbenolessthan3years.

Term/fulltimefacultyshallberenewedfor3yeartermsinaccordancewith
theirseniorityandqualifications.

TheCollegeshallgivegoodfaithconsiderationtotheapplicationsof
term/fulltimefacultyfortenuretrackpositions.

WAGES

Therateshereinrefertocoursescarryingthree(3)pointsorfewerofacademic
credit.Theseratesshallbeincreasedcommensuratelyforcoursesthatcarrymore
thanthreepointsofacademiccredit.

EffectiveSeptember1,2015,facultyshallreceiveaminimumof$15,000per
course,or5%abovetheircurrentrate,
whicheverisgreater
,persemester.Term
facultyteachinga3/2or2/3courseloadshallthusreceiveaminimumof$75,000per
academicyear.

EffectiveSeptember1,2016,allratesofpayshallincreasebyfivepercent(5%)
eachSeptember1.

NothinginthisAgreementshallpreventtheCollegefrompaying,orafaculty
memberfromaccepting,arateofpayabovethatprovidedforinthisAgreement.

Compensationshallbeprovidedforadditionalwork,includingbutnotlimited
toindependentstudydirection,thesisdirection,coursedevelopment,offcampus
activities,administrativetasks,requiredmeetings,etc.

REIMBURSEMENTS

Facultyshallbereimbursedforreasonableteachingexpenses,e.g.,transportation
expensesorticketsforclassactivities,classroomsupplies,equipment,etc.

GOVERNANCE

Three(3)positionsontheOffLadderFacultyAdvisoryCommittee(OLFAC)andone(1)
positionontheCommitteeonInstruction(COI)shallbeformembersoftheunion.All
positionsshallbecompensated.

PROFESSIONALDEVELOPMENT

Eachpostprobationaryfacultyshallbeentitledtoaminimumof$1000peryearfor
professionaldevelopment,e.g.,conferencetravel,registration,andlodging;research
travelandlodging;researchsupplies;publicationsubventions;etc.

SPACEANDFACILITIES

Facultyshallbeprovidedwithuninterruptedaccesstoanduseofanofficewithdesk,
telephonewithvoicemailaccess,filespace,bookshelves,acomputer,abarnard.edu
emailaddress,useofphotocopiersandscanners,andfulllibraryprivilegesatthe
ColumbiaUniversityLibraries.

GRIEVANCEPROCEDURE

DefinitionofgrievanceconsistentwiththeexistingcontractbetweentheCollegeand
staffrepresentedbyLocal2110.
StepOne
GrievancefiledwithDepartmentChair/ProgramDirectorwithinthirty(30)
calendardaysofwhenthegrievancearisesorwhenthefacultymemberbecomesaware
ofit.Collegeresponserequiredwithin14calendardaysandmustbeinwriting.
StepTwo
IfnotresolvedinStepOne,UnionfileswrittengrievancewiththeProvost
within14calendardaysofreceiptoftheStepOneanswertothegrievance.Provostor
designeewillscheduleameetingwiththegrievantandtheunionrepresentativewithin
14calendardaysofreceiptofStepTwogrievance.Secondstepwrittenresponsedue
within14calendardaysafterthemeeting.
StepThree
Arbitration.ConsistentwiththeexistingLocal2110staffcontract.
Righttounionrepresentationateverystepoftheprocedure.
Grievancesconcerningdischarge,eliminationofposition(s),leavesofabsence,
substantialnumberoffacultymembers,issueswhichStepOnerepresentativelacks
authoritytoresolve,oranymatterwhichconcernstheCollegeasaninstitutionorthe
Unionasanorganization,maybefiledatStepTwo.

SEVERANCE

Facultymemberswhoarelaidofforreducedshallreceiveseverancepayequivalentto
oneweekspayforeachcoursethefacultymemberhastaughtattheCollege.

LEAVESOFABSENCE

PaidMedical/FamilyIllness/BereavementLeave:Facultyaccrueonecalendar
weekofleavepersemesterduringtheirprobationaryperiodandtwoweeksper
semesterthereafter.

PaidParental(Maternity/Paternity/Adoption/FosterCarePlacement)Leave:15
weeks.

PaidAcademicLeave:Afterevery6semesters(notnecessarilyconsecutive)of
teaching,onesemesterofleavepaidattheaveragepayforthose6semesters.

UnpaidUnionBusinessLeave:Unpaidleaveforunionbusiness.

UnpaidPersonalLeave:Uponchairsorprogramdirectorsapproval.

RETIREMENTPLAN

TheCollegeshallcontribute10%ofearningstoaretirementaccountforall
postprobationaryfaculty.

TUITIONEXEMPTION

Forpostprobationaryfaculty,fulltuitionremissionforuptotwocoursesasemesterfor
themselves,spouses,ordependents,andaccesstotheexistingTuitionAssistance
programfordependentchildren.

HEALTHBENEFITS

TheCollegeshallprovide,withoutfacultypremiumcontributions,medical,dental,and
visioncoverageforallfacultyaftertheirfirstsemesterofteaching.

CHILDCARESUBSIDY

TheCollegeshallestablishachildcaresubsidyfundof$50,000peryear,tobe
administeredbytheUnioninagreementwiththeCollege,forchildrenuptoage13.

GYM

AllfacultywillhaveaccesstotheexistingGlobalFitCorporateFitnessprogram.

REORGANIZATION

TheCollegewillprovideaminimumofsixmonthsnoticeofanyreorganizationof
Collegeoperationsorprogramsorrevisionofcurriculumwhichmightresultin:(a)
reductionordisplacementofbargainingunitpositions;(b)substantialchangesina
facultymembersposition;or(c)changesinjobclassification.Uponrequest,theCollege
willmeetwiththeUniontodiscussandbargainoverthereorganization.

MAINTENANCEOFBENEFITS

Allbenefitsattributabletounitmembersandwhicharesetforthinwritten
Universitypolicyheretoforeexistingshallbecontinuedunlessdiscontinuedor
modifiedbytermsofthisAgreementorbyotherwrittenagreementsbetweenthe
UniversityandtheUnion.

AnypriorbenefitnotthesubjectofawrittenUniversitypolicyshallbetreated
aswrittenifsuchpriorbenefithasbeen:(a)consistentandascertainablecourseof
conduct;(b)engagedinforsomereasonablelengthoftime;(c)ofwhichbothparties
areaware;(d)Whichdoesnotvarytheexpress,writtentermsofthisAgreement;(e)
whichisinrespecttoagivensetofspecificcircumstancesandconditions.
