Overview
This lesson focuses on internet safety. The teacher will prepare the students by asking questions about their
knowledge of internet safety. Students will do research and write a brief summary over internet safety. The
students will be put into evenly divided and strategically planned groups for the first two portions of the
assignment, but will work independently for the other two portions. The students will do their work in the
classroom and during computer lab time. The students will be provided with all necessary instructions, an
assessment rubric, and various teacher approved websites. Accommodations will be provided as needed. The
students will end the assignment with a reflective survey.

Essential Questions

Assessment
1. The students will brainstorm ideas about internet safety within their groups.
Differentiation- Groups will be evenly divided and strategically planned. Accommodations will be made as needed.
2. The students will work within their groups to research information about internet safety from the teacher
approved websites provided to them.

Resources
1. The students should be able to access and navigate the websites provided to them.
2. The students will access the teacher approved websites that are provided to them.
3. The students will be provided with an assessment rubric to use as reference when writing their brief summaries.
Management
The students will be required to work on their assignment in the classroom. The students will be divided into
equal, strategically planned groups when brainstorming and researching information. The students will work in
their groups at the classroom computers and will work in the computer lab during lab time. Once the
brainstorming and research portions of the assignment are complete, the students will work independently to write
their brief summaries over what they have learned. The students will work independently when completing the
survey at the conclusion of the assignment.
Differentiation
The students will work in evenly divided and strategically planned groups for the brainstorming and research
portions of the assignment. This will ensure that each group has at least one student that is a fluent reader and can
navigate computers well. The students will work independently while completing the brief summary and the
reflective survey. Students will be able to choose from a variety of websites to use when researching their
information. The teacher will be available to help any students who may have questions or need assistance.
Students will have the opportunity to do additional research on this topic after this assignment has been completed
and they may present this information to the class. No assistive technologies will be needed at this time, but they
will be implemented as needed along with any other accommodations.
