Subject:

Reduce the number of teens who commit suicide.

PURPOSE
Lowering the amount of suicide is important because the people you love could be contemplating
ending their own life. These people need our help to save their lives. The rates of teens thinking
about suicide have gone up dramatically, and most of the cases are happening because of
schools. Over 14 percent of high school students have considered suicide, and almost 7 percent
have attempted it. (Youth Suicide Statistics - Parent Resource Program). It could be the kids
bulling one another or, even the work at school becomes too hard and they feel like the only
option is to give up on everything to make it easier. Kids who are planning the worst most likely
will admit it as a cry for help. We should have professionals go in to schools and find kids who
need support so they can answer their cries. We could save lives by just reaching out.

PROBLEM
Most teen suicides are caused right there at schools with stressful work and kids harassing each
other. Kids are becoming emotionally unstable because the place youre supposed to be the safest
is hurting you the most, with people ridiculing you because you are not the smartest or the most
attractive and your skin has freckles, maybe your weight is not the heathiest. Then it becomes too
much and you break, your mind tells you to give up, and you do. These kids are showing the

growing generations that to give up is the best answer. The suicide rates will only go up without
the help of our society. We can all reach out and help someone to build them back to sanity.

SOLUTION
Young adults suffering from different depressions will often openly admit it when confronted.
They need someone to want to help them, its there cry for help. To get them to admit they need
help, we can have a professional come in and have one-on-ones with students. Starting with kids
high at risk; kids with bad grades lots of absences and lots of suspensions are much higher risk
than others according to my research. Then slowly get to all the kids. They will have support
giving them hope and sometimes all we need is hope. In doing this the suicide rates in teens go
down public schools.

CONCLUTION
Teen suicide has gone up when it is totally preventable by a simple hand. Suicide causes more
death in young adults than cancer, heart disease, AIDS, birth defects, stroke, pneumonia,
influenza, and chronic lung disease, COMBINED. (Youth Suicide Statistics - Parent Resource
Program). We will no longer loose the ones we love because of unhappiness and dissatisfaction
in life, we can make our schools a happier place for everyone. Will you reach out?
