environments.Thedynamicoftheclassisverydiverse.Studentsarewellbehavedbutsome
lackinterestinschoolandshowlittleeffort.About75%ofthestudentsarekinesthetic,
handsonlearning.Studentsworkwellwithmanipulatives.Ihavelearnedthatmystudents
learnbestduringhandsonactivitiesandincorporatingtechnology.Studentslearnbestwhen

focusingon,isthatstudentswillbeaccessingSeeSawandshowingdifferentequivalent
fractionsinavarietyofways.
2.ThemediastudentswillbeaccessingisthroughiPads.Atmyschool,eachstudenthasa
Googleaccountandemail.Withthis,studentswillbeusingtheirGoogleaccountemailand
passwordtoaccesstheclassSeeSawpage.Here,theycanadddifferentitemstoshow
differentequivalentfractions.
3.Atthestation,studentswillbeaskedtoshowequivalentchainsfor3differentfractions.
Theywillhavetoshow6equivalentfractionsforeachfraction.Forexample,thefractionwill
be.Studentswillhavetoshow6equivalentfractionsforjustthisonefraction.Thelesson
forthepreviousday,studentspracticehowtoformequivalentchains.ThisSeeSawactivity
willbeusedforassessmentandwillguidegroupingandwillshowwhatstudentsneedmore
practicefindingequivalentfractionsandwhatstudentsneedtobechallengedmore.

thislesson.TheiPadcartwillgetcheckedoutpriortothelessonandintheclassroomready
forstudentuse.Theteacherneedstohavethepuzzlepiecescopied,laminated,andcutout
foreachgroup.Studentswillbeworkingingroupsof5sotheteacherwillneedtohave5
differentpuzzlepiececopies.StudentswillbeusingSeeSawtoadditemstoshowequivalent
fractions.Theteacherwillhavetocreatenotecardsoffractions.Thenotecardswillhavethe
fractionsstudentswillhavetofindequivalentfractionsfor.

Preparetheenvironment:Thelessonwilltakeplaceintheclassroom.Duringthewhole
group,studentswillbeattheirseat.Forthesmallgroupactivity,studentscanmovetothe
floorrightbytheirdesktoassemblethepuzzle.Thestudentscanmovefreelyaroundthe
roomwiththeiriPads,duringthesmallgrouptime.Theycanaskpeerstosupportthemifthey
haveforgottenanysteps.Topreparetheenvironment,theteacherwillhavethenotecardsat
thestationforstudentuse.Therewillbenotecardswherestudentschoose3fractionsto
showequivalentfractionsfor.

before.Thissmallgroupstationlessonisusedasreviewandwillshowtheteacherwhat
studentsunderstoodthelessonandwhatstudentsneedmorepracticewiththelesson.They
