FirstPointofAssessment:

Thefirstassessmentwastheroughsketchofapreparedslide.Thisassessmentwasjusta
quickcheckintoseeifstudentswereabletounderstandthebasicfocusingofthemicroscope
andhowtocreateadetaileddrawingofasample

SecondPointofAssessment:

Thesecondtimestudentswereassessedovertheirobservationsandrepresentationstheywere
givenrubricstoselfevaluate.Thisassessmentwasmoreformal,inthattheworkwas
submittedtobefiguredintoeachstudentsgrade.Intherubricthereareonlyfourcategories
eachofwhichisprimarilyskillsbased.Ascanbeseenbelow,therearesomepointswhere
studentsselfevaluationswerenotparticularlyinlinewiththerealityofthesubmittedwork,
whichishelpedcreateconversationsaboutexpectations.

Thefollowquestionisfromaquizgiventostudents.Thisparticularquizwasbenchmark
evaluationofskillstodetermineiftheclasswasabletomoveontosmallerorganismsandifthey
hadabaselevelmasteryoftheskillsneededformoredetailedmicroscopicobservations.
