Clinical Evaluations: Ms. Robinson, Oakhurst Elementary

1. February 9th 2:00-3:30: The kids were all in the cafeteria on their laptops working
on severe weather outlines for a specific country. The kids picked one type of
severe weather that was prevalent in their assigned country and then researched it
online. In their outline they had to describe it with a lot of details. Then everyone
went back into their classrooms. The EC class I was observing had a modified
debate on Harriet Tubman, Fredrick Douglas, and Martin Luther King Jr. They
read an article by text coding it. I was able to walk around and answer any
questions the students had. Ms. Robinson then paired the 5th graders off and they
debated who was the most important in American history. The kids had to take
notes about each person. The students would switch partners every few minutes.
Then after the activity everyone went back to their seats and did a rebuttal of their
previous argument. The purpose of the activity was to work on speaking,
dialogue, and reading to find main points in a creative manner.
2. February 19th 1:50-3:50: This is the lesson that I went in to observe and write
about. Ms. Robinson was teaching a lesson on math and specifically
multiplication. They were doing a more advanced multiplication for example,
1237x978. She started the lesson off by working through several problems step by
step. She then gave all of the students a small handout with steps and tips on how
to multiply. Ms. Robinson put several questions on the board and had the students
do them individually. She then showed video on multiplying to reinforce what she
had just taught. She gave the kids a worksheet to do with 10 problems and after
they were done allowed them to do more math game on their laptops. It was a
really good lesson and the students were taught very thoroughly how to multiply. I
was able to help out by sitting with two fifth graders and helping them with the
worksheet. I never gave them the answer but made them do the work and then I
would help out if they got stuck on a problem.
3. March 16th 1:45-3:45: The students got into assigned group and went on their
laptops. There were four groups and the topic for the day was ecosystems. One
group was making a brochure, one was doing vocabulary words with quizlet, and
the last group was writing up a reflection. The used headphones for their video
and were very skilled in using their laptops as a resource. After about ten minutes
they would switch groups. Next the class did reading practice for their upcoming
EOGs. They had ten minutes to read a passage and use various reading strategies
they had learned to analyze the text before answering the questions. After this was
done the class worked on their book projects. One of the boys, Mohammed,
needed help completing his PowerPoint for the book My Five Senses. I was
able to help him finish it while looking it over for spelling errors. He had to fill

out basic information on the book, a summary, the main characters of the book,
and if he would recommend it.
4. March 24 1:45-3:45: Today the students were working on a science project, which
included an online element and a worksheet. I graded papers and assisted with
questions they had on the project. After grading papers I calculated and entered
grades in for everyone in the class. The students then had work on ecosystems, the
food chain, and consumers/producers. They had to read two articles, answer
several short answer questions, and then answer multiple-choice questions.
5. April 7 9:30-11:30: Today, I observed the students, helped out with any questions
they had on what they needed to be doing, and organized Wednesday folders. The
Wednesday folders are Teacher to Parents communication folders and hold
various assignments and flyers for upcoming school functions. I organized papers
into everyones individual folder and helped track down any not turned in folders.
It was a quiet day and the students were either doing make up work or reading
silently at their desks. Near the end there was a class meeting about the upcoming
Washington D.C. field trip. After the meeting the students were allowed to get on
their laptops and work on any other additional work
6. April 14th 1:45-2:30: The students were working on their literacy worksheets
when I came in. They wre given strategies on how to interpret the passage they
were reading and then told to start the activity. One of the strategies involved
drawing a pictures of what was happeninig in the passage. Then everyone went
over the answers they got with a class discussion. It was a collaborative effort and
no technology was used for the lesson. The students would then read out each
question and give the correct answer as a class.
