What is the effect that it offers to the

viewer? How does it portray the
characters individually and in
relationship to other characters?
Allows the viewer to see the entire scene and all
the subjects. The light shines on the back of the
man standing in the suit vs the light hitting the
faces of all the other men below.
This angle gives us an understanding of the
roles of the characters in the scene. It puts the
man in the suit above the surrounding men. It
makes the men below look up to the other man
as he speaks. The children look to be protected
by the man in the suit.
Provides a serious and secretive tone. The dark
shadows off of the wall makes me believe that
its night. There are lots of shadows which leads

me to believe theyre meeting in secret.

1.

Three Shot: includes three people

in one frame, the children in the
bushes.

2.

Close Up: shot with just head and

shoulders, Mr. Atticus standing
on the podium.

Framing (shot)

Lighting

Side Lighting: light from the side that

leaves the object(s) in half light and half
dark, the mob members have side
lighting on their left sides, casting
shadows to the right.
1. Eye: even with the eye of the person,
one of the men in the mob staring
intensely at Mr. Atticus.

Angles

Camera
Movement

2. High: view from above a subject, the

angle is coming from over the
shoulder of Mr. Atticus and the
children.
1. Zoom: coming closer or father away
from a subject, when the children
approach Mr. Atticus, the camera
zooms in.

What is the effect that it offers to the

viewer? How does it portray the
characters individually and in
relationship to other characters?
This shot allows us to see all three children and
lets us in on what theyre talking about. We can
see that the group of children consist of two boys
and a young girl. They stand close to one
another so I assume they are either siblings or
good friends.
The close up shot on Mr. Atticus allows us to
visualize who he is and what hes wearing. We
can see that his apparel substantially differs
from those of the other men in the mob.
This lighting provides a secretive and dark
feeling about the scene. The shadow casted on
all the men below the podium makes it seem like
theyre doing something wrong. The lighting on
the back of Mr. Atticus makes him the focus of
the scene.
The camera comes eye level to one of the mob
members and we can see in his face anger and
determination. His attention is focused on Mr.
Atticus which leads us to believe that his
emotions are focused toward Mr. Atticus.
The angle draws our attention to the mob
members at first. We can see that theyre looking
up on the podium at Mr. Atticus and that then
draws our attention to him and the children on
the podium.
The zoom gives us the initial point of focus. As
the children approach the mob, we can then see
who their focus is on, Mr. Atticus.

2. Tilt: moving the cameras head

vertically, when the camera zooms
out on Mr. Atticus we then get a
reveal of this attire.

Sound

Diegetic: sounds heard by the characters,

the voice of the children when theyre
whispering in the bushes.

1. POV: shot from a characters point of

view, as the children approach Mr.
Atticus the camera goes to the POV
of the young girl.
Editing

2. Shot-Reverse-Shot: switching back

and forth between two characters, as
they young girl and one of the mob
members discuss his son, the camera
flashes back and forth between the
two.

The tilt allows us to fully assess the dress of Mr.

Atticus. We previously saw the clothes on the
mob members and Mr. Atticus is dressed much
nicer than they were. It helps us separate the
two types of men. Mr. Atticus is clearly of high
esteem, while the other men arent.
The hushed tones only heard between the
children at the beginning of the clip give us a
sneak peek into what is about to happen. It also
lets us into their relationship amongst each
other.
The view from the stance of the young girl makes
it clear that she hold Mr. Atticus at high
expectations. Yes, she physically must look up to
him but the eagerness in her voice and steps
reveal another type of admiration.
The shot-reverse gives off a very intense feeling
to the audience. We can see the response of the
man as the young girl asks him personal
questions about his professional life and his
family. We can see the guilt in his eyes and the
innocence in the other girls eyes.
