Strength to Leverage: Challenge the Process

Critical Behaviors/Goals: Search for opportunities by seeking innovative ways to change,
grow and improve myself as well as my organization. Experiment and take risks by constantly
generating small wins and learning from mistakes.

Act as a catalyst for necessary change and innovation.

Developmental Action Steps: Seek opportunities to challenge transactional leadership, and
continuously strive to rid my leadership of contingent rewarding and management by exception.
Constantly compare actions to goals and if they dont align, reassess. Stay on course, and
have the restraint to stay on plan.
Determine desired outcome of the challenge before implementation, and have an end goal
including date before carrying out a plan.
Ask and answer the questions: Can the outcome be measured? If not, determine the impact of
the plan and how it affects the organization, is it necessary? Does it help achieve a goal? Is it
worth the time it takes to implement the plan? Does the current process need to be challenged,
or is it just being implemented incorrectly?
Managers Role: Open door, open mind. Trust me, and give me the opportunity to try new
things. Give me feedback, and if Im found drifting from the necessary course, help me redirect
my focus.
Milestones: Successfully carried out plans show value, a positive change in work ethic and
morale, and an increase in productivity.
Results/Outcomes: Having led a team or organization that has a culture of embracing change
and trust in the future.

Area to Develop: Self-discipline and consistency

Critical Behaviors/Goals: Have focus and determination. Establish objectives and standards
of excellence. Carry out work in accordance with values. Remain cool, calm, and consistent in
times of stress.
Be self-directed and stay on course. This gives others in the organization a sense of security
regarding my leadership and the way it correlates to the mission. The group that I lead will
utilize me as a resource and will be confident to follow my plans, decisions, and power.
Developmental Action Steps: List and assess priorities. Seek confirmation from leaders to
align my plans and goals with the mission and focuses of the organization. Seek the buy-in of
members of the organization to form a partnership of collaboration and support. Reflect and
assess often, and revisit my own behaviors and actions and determine if they correlate with the
organization positively.
Have routines. Be consistent with them.

Managers Role: Open door and feedback. Help me stay on course by keeping me updated on
what my focuses should be. Help me prioritize and establish objectives.
Milestones: Each consistent action will have a positive effect on the organization and the
people that work within the organization.
I will achieve goals at a faster pace with more ease if I follow routines and continue to work
towards an end goal.
Results/Outcomes: Behavior is predictable and is easily observed by followers, which makes
their communication with me easier as they feel more comfortable approaching me, especially
regarding difficult conversation topics.

Area to Develop: Articulating thoughts into speech

Critical Behaviors/Goals: Authentic, informed exchanges of dialogue. Knowing what to say
when I have concerns in a way that conveys my message in a way others can understand.
Knowing how to respond to others with authentic responses in a way that they are able to
understand. Foster honest communication, and strive to deliver the most accurate information
available versus the best answer I can give on the spot.
Developmental Action Steps: Constantly update myself on my organizations mission. Ask for
new information when it is available, and continuously participate in the dialogue of the
organization. When approached with issues that Im not well versed on, ask for more time if
necessary, and allocate the information needed.
Managers Role: Open door, open communication. Updates on what organizational values and
goals are, and clear direction as to what my expectations are and the why behind them.
Target Date/ Milestones: Continuous process in every aspect of my life.
Results/Outcomes: Earned trust of courageous followers. The better I become at articulating
thoughts into speech, the more confident I will be in delivering messages and fostering an
environment of communication and inclusion.
Manager and/or Employee Comments:
Incorporate long term career goals with short term career goals.
Work to achieve milestones, set and achieve goals. Have a plan, and dont get off course while
trying to achieve the outcome.
Stay motivated after negative feedback.
Have confidence and personal drive, and be aware of how challenges negatively affect my
motivation. I cant be my own worst enemy, and I cant shut down during challenging times.
Dont give up when something doesnt work. Some things take time, but dont lose focus on the
end goal. Strive to be consistent with routines.
Dont overthink things, and ask for answers when I dont have them. If I dont feel I can properly
address concerns, ask for more time and seek information to be able to properly inform and
develop others.
