Develop rhetorical knowledge by:

Analyzing and composing several genres, such as comparison, analysis and
persuasion, to understand how genre conventions shape readers and writers
practices and purposes,
Practicing purposeful shifts in structure, content, diction, tone, formality, design,
and/or medium in accordance with the rhetorical situation.
2. Develop critical thinking, reading, and information literacy skills by:
Composing and reading for inquiry, learning, critical thinking, and
communicating,
Using outside materials in their own writing through techniques such as
interpretation, synthesis, response, critique, and design/redesign,
Incorporating outside materials through quotations, paraphrase, and summary.
3. Develop effective strategies for drafting texts by:
Working through multiple drafts of a project and recognizing the role of
reflecting, revising, and editing in the process,
Engaging in the collaborative and social aspects of writing processes, such as
learning to give and to act on productive feedback to works in progress, both by
and with peers and in one-on-one instructor conferences,
Critically reflecting on how they may further develop and apply writing skills in
the future.
4. Develop knowledge of conventions by:

conventions through application of citation style.
what you learned
Rhetorical knowledge has been used in our documented essay, journals and exploratory essay.
Comparison was used in the documented essay where we tried to point out two different point
of view in our topic. We not only had to back our view but also what someone against it would
think. Then having our peer reviews which was basically a way of us using persuasion. Telling
them what we thought and giving our opposing view. When it came to diction and tone it was
very important in our documented essay. We did not want to use the same old words so we
basically had to amp it up.when writing your word choice is very important , if your tone is nice
and sweet. You would not using certains words such as angry or yelling,or even when it comes
to punctuation using an exclamation point or words in all caps. Structure is also an important
part of the documented essay. When writing your ideas can everywhere. When an audience
reads your paper it has to flow, or whoever reading it will lose concentration. When we had a
reading the night before we had to analyze them the next day. One day we were looking for the
thesis or the pathos and ethos. There also was a change in our reading for a while we were
reading certain chapters that introduced different types and ways of writing. Then we had stories
like bumping into mr.ravioli that story had a message that one had to figure out. When the
stories were brought to our attention, i was alittle confused on what to do. When we wrote about
the different topics the book gave such as argumentative writing. Which was surprisingly easy
because it gave us ideas to write about. But stores like google makes us tupid or island was a
little hard. In my head i would think where do i began, how do i write a journal and compare it to
an SLO.

SLO number 2 explains the reading with a purpose and also when writing a research paper the
many things that need to be included.I feel we used reading with a purpose in our journals. We
had to not only write about what we read but also discuss it in class. In our research paper we
are doing we are using techniques such as quotations and paraphrase. It gives us reasoning
and more factual information for our paper. We had kind of peer review sessions in class.
Where we discussed our research paper and my peers gave me there opinion and what i can
do to improve.
Drafting effectively basically is saying making sure your that your final copy of the paper will be
at its best because you made sure every little mistake was taken care of. We engaged in these
different techniques such as feedback from peers and one-on- one instruction time. A couple
weeks ago each member in my class got in front of the classroom and basically gave everyone
an overview of what their paper was about. The class as an audience gave them what side we
agreed with, a little idea of what they could add and then a nice compliment. Another thing we
partook in was one on one conference with our teacher. We came to him with a outline of our
documented essay. He looked over and gave us what his feedback and also what we should
focus on . Then also giving us the chance to talk about any other problems we were having
starting on the paper and also re doing our exploratory essay.
The following things such as grammar and punctuation they correspond with the activities such
as revising our exploratory essay and documented essay. Grammar, punctuation are important
factors with our documented essay. Some may think that grammar and punctuations also
spelling aren't important but they are. You can not write a paper with past tense verbs and also
putting a comma where it does not belong. Also misspelling a word , just does not make your
paper look good. The structure of your paper has a big impact, when reader is reading your
paper has to flow. Paragraphing as well was a big thing in the exploratory essay. We were
writing a memoir so we did not have the common five sentence paragraph. Some paragraphs
were full and then we were allowed for a one sentence paragraph. Also the dialogue that need
to be in paper sets the tone. I feel it
