Homewood Man Flees Police

Bench warrant was served after man failed to appear in court

By: Beth Bogolub
A Homewood man facing numerous charges after attempting to flee police officers, had a
bench warrant issued against him after failing to appear in court on those and other charges.
The warrant was issued against Shawn Langford, 29, of Homewood, after he did not
appear for a preliminary hearing on charge of carrying a firearm without a license, person not
supposed to possess or use firearms, and resisting arrest. District Judge Eugene Ricciardi order
his arrest on 9 Sep. 2013.
On 22 Aug. 2013, Langford and another man were sitting on the steps on the steps behind
an abandoned house in the 7500 block of Hamilton Ave. Officers on routine patrol of the
neighborhood saw the two men and approached the men due to numerous complaints of people
sitting on the steps of abandoned house and using narcotics.
Sgt. Arthur Baker, one of the officers who was patrolling the neighborhood, approached
Langford who had been attempting to the leave the courtyard. Upon seeing Sgt. Baker, Langford
grabbed the waistband of pants and hurried out the courtyard and down Hamilton Ave.
Sgt. Baker called for backup and continued to pursue Langford on foot. During the
pursuit Langford fell to the ground and numerous items fell out of his pockets and his baseball
cap fell off.
Sgt. Charles Henderson was joined by two more officers, one them, Officer Jim McGee,
was able to catch Langford at the end of the 7300 block of Hamilton. Langford fought Officer
McGee, and even managed to pull out of the Officer McGees grip before falling to the ground in
an attempt to escape.
Langford never stopped resisting and attempting to get up off the ground, said Sgt.
Baker.
Both Officer McGee and Sgt. Baker restrained Langford to the ground. Langford
continued to resist Sgt. Baker until Officer McGee was able to handcuff him. After an initial patdown revealed nothing on Langfords person, Sgt. Baker went back to the location where
Langford had fallen earlier. There Sgt. Baker discovered a CZ 9mm black pistol as well as
Langford baseball cap.
Sgt. Baker placed Langford under arrest, Langford had been arrested previously in 2003
for robbery. Langford posted bail, and after failing to appear in court was re-arrested on a bench
warrant.
Simultaneously, the other officer who had been patrolling with Sgt. Baker arrested the
man Langford was with after discovering a plastic bag of marijuana in the rim of the mans
baseball cap.

Langford is currently incarcerated at the State Correctional Institution at Pine Grove for
other crimes.
