Science and Soccer: The Life

of Brendon Bruns
By Kaitlin Miller
If youre looking for a man
with incomparable dedication, insane intelligence,
and an incredible love for
soccer, look in the direction of Brendon Bruns. Hes
the oldest child of Jeff and
Shannon Bruns. His father
is a supervisor at Kawasaki
and his mother is a parental
educator at Tarkio Elemen-

tary School. Brendon sets

the bar for his two younger
sisters, Chloe, age 14, and
Sydnee, age 9.
As a member of Student
Council, FCCLA, Rotary,
FBLA (wish him luck, hes
attending state in a few
weeks), and Scholar Bowl all
four years of high school and
a member of National Honor Society for three years,

he holds high standards for

himself as he heads off to
college to attend The University of Kansas. He plans
on majoring in finance in order to pursue a career as a
financial analyst for a major
company.
One day, Brendon will be
spreading his unfathomable
wisdom through the works
of numbers, but for now hes
finishing out his senior year
of high school by doing some
of the things he loves. His
4-year high school basketball
career came to an end this
season. Winning the Fairfax Tournament this year
was just the cherry on top!
Alongside basketball, he has
been the dynamic QB for the
East Atchison Wolves since
his freshman year. As if he
didnt already have enough
on his plate, he decided to
spend his springtime on the
green swinging his golf club.
When Brendon finally gets
some free time for himself,
he usually spends it reading
or watching the Harry Potter series, hanging out with
friends, playing games on
his PlayStation, or cheering
on his favorite sports teams.
Some may tell by his various Lionel Messi and Sporting KC shirts just how much
Brendon truly loves soccer.
As we await his bright future, I had some time to ask
Brendon some irrelevant
questions:
If you could survive off
only one food for the rest of
your life, what would it be?
Brownies - Brownies are
awesome.
If you couldve written
one book in history, what
would it be?
The Harry Potter series

Invisibility because no

So I had to change the

question to soccer or American football.
Soccer because its better to watch and more realistic.

Its your St. Louis Boy: Andrew Thomas

By Kaitlin Miller
Andrew Mark Thomas is
the son of Miranda Graybill
(mother) and Randy Graybill (stepdad), and Mark
Thomas (dad). His mother is
a homemaker and his stepdad works at Tom Hawk
Towing. His father lives in
St. Louis working as a manager at a professional bowling shop. Andrew has three
brothers, Shawn, 29, David,
22, and Jonathon (JT), 19,
and one sister, Danielle, 25.
He also has two young nephews, Roman and Michael.
Andrew grew up in St.
Charles near the St. Louis
area until he moved here his
freshman year. As he reminisced about his childhood in
the big city, he recalled, Our
house used to be the chill
spot so there used to be like
25 kids at our house at the
same time. Wed have little
kickball games and stuff. My
mom loved that. Although
he made a major change in
location, his dire love for
baseball has remained. During his time at Tarkio High
School, hes played baseball
for three years alongside a
year of football and basketball. When hes not at baseball practice or excelling at
his two-years-and-counting
job at Hy-Vee, you can find
him drawing, chilling with
the homies, or out fishing
and shooting. On any night
hes feeling it, youll catch
Andrew cruising the bright
town of Tarkio listening to
his favorite music, Trap,
gangsta, hip hop - nah
Im kidding, just hip hop
and country. As you could
imagine, this STL city-boy
loves repping his hometown
teams, the Cardinals and St.
Louis Blues. His love for the
Cardinals fuels the ongoing
trash-talk between him and
English teacher and baseball coach Mr. Martin, which
is entertainment enough
for anyone involved. Such
disputes might be why Andrews favorite high school
memory involved another
teacher, Mr. Corrington. My
favorite memory would be
having Tom Corrington as

one would know what youre

up to.
Soccer or football?
Why?
Thats a ridiculous question, they mean the same
thing.

a teacher. Come back, CorTom. Resurrect. That might

also be the reason why Andrews favorite subject is
mathematics.
Ever since he was a young
boy, Andrew always knew he
wanted to be a firefighter.
Next fall, he will be further-

ing his future by majoring

in Emergency and Disaster
Management at Northwest
Missouri State University.
Given Andrews lively
personality, he had no problems answering my (mostly)
irrelevant questions.
Cowboy or city boy?
If I had to choose, probably the city life.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
How old would I be? 28?
Dang. Living in a city as a
fireman with a family.
Whats your number
one go-to fast food restaurant?
Aw, Taco Bell. Definitely,
man. Give me some dang
churros!
If you could have one
power, what would it be?
Why?
To swap my vision to a
time in the past. Like if I was
sitting downtown, I could sit
there and see what it would
be like in the 1930s.
How do you feel about
Mr. Martin being a Royals
fan?
You cant put in the paper what I would say. But if
thats how it is, then so be
it.
