narrative.
Characterization
Instructions: The more clearly you understand the character, the better you will be able to tell
the story from his or her point of view. Answer these questions to guide your writing.

How will the character respond to the conflict? Remember, your characters actions
should be believable based on the character portrayed in the book you read. Use the things you
observed through characterization to plan your characters response. The way Bruno would
respond to this conflict is by going over the barbwire fence and helping his Jewish friend
Shmuel.

What point of view will you use? Brunos point of view, because hes the main character
as well as the protagonists.

other characters in your narrative? The reason why Bruno will show his actions brought upon
the other characters of the story because with all of them he is in a conflict with.
Plot
Instructions: Take time now to plan the course of events in your narrative. The conflict you
selected earlier should be the driving force in your story. Answer these questions in complete
sentences.

In which stage of the plot can you use foreshadowing or flashback to add interest to your
story?
When Bruno decides to investigate the camp, he knows that something is wrong. We see the
camp through the eyes of Bruno, a child and an innocent, but even he feels that something isn't
right.

Knowing the conflict your character faces, what will the turning point be for him or her?
Begin outlining the plot by starting with the climax. How does he or she get to that point?
(Thats the exposition and rising action.) How is he or she changed as a result of the turning
point? (Thats the falling action and resolution.) The climax would be when Bruno crawls user
the prisoners fence. He leaves his clothes and boots on the other side, The two boys go look
around for Shmuels father who has gone missing. The falling action would be Bruno and
Shmuel are in the camp trying to find Shmuels father. Resolution is that Bruno and Shmuel are
locked in the gas chamber awaiting their despair. And Brunos mother discovers his clothes and
boots on the other side of the fence.

the climax, where you will have just one event. Then plan your characters response to the
events. What will he or she say, think, or do in light of the events you have planned?
