The Activity Plan Worksheets demonstrate my ability to create age

appropriate activities to be carried through in the childhood classroom.

It shows my five lesson plans created around one theme in order to
complete the project approach. The project also displays my
competence to create engaging and hands-on activities for the
children.

This work demonstrates my work towards the NAEYC Standard One,

Promoting Child Development and Learning, through constructing
developmentally appropriate learning activities for children to become
engaged in.

Throughout the project approach, I learned how important it is to

create age and developmentally appropriate activities. I also gained a
better sense of how to create the activities

Activity Plan Worksheet

Investigation Topic: Apples
Question: What is each apple going to make with paint?
Childrens age group: 3-5 Years Old
Number of children in this group: Large group
Name of Activity and Brief Description: Printing with Apples
Subject: Art
NAEYC Standard Addressed: 2.J.07 Children have opportunities to
respond to the art of other children and adults.
Goal/Domain: The child will share their thoughts of theirs and others
artwork
Objectives of Activity: I would probably start with a child making a
comment about their own art project and then move into them commenting
about the others artwork.
During group time the child will comment about one of the differences or
interesting things about another child's completed project.
During group time the child will comment about two to four of the differences
or interesting things about another child's final product.
Space and materials needed: apples, plates, paint, and paper, time
to let them dry, Group time rug, and final apple printing papers.
Procedure: Today we are going to use apples to paint! Once I call your
name you will go line up to wash your hands and go potty if you need to and
then sit at your seat for instructions.
1. Take your apple half and dip it in the plate of paint until it is coated.
2. After the bottom of your apple is covered with paint place it gently on
the piece of paper.
3. Carefully remove the apple from the paper.
4. Ask a child with a different apple if you may use theirs and switch with
them.
5. Repeat steps 1-3
6. When done with two apple prints you may do one more of any apple at
your table
7. Repeat steps 1-3
8. Sign your name with a pencil, crayon, market, etc. (If help is needed
ask)
9. Put your picture up to dry
10.
Wash your place and hands.
11.
Go to the area rug and read or play quietly while others are
finishing.

12.
After recess or story time and the pictures are dry they will sit at
the story time rug. (If needs to be discussed the next day that is okay.)
13.
A child will get up in front of the class or have the teacher hold it
up and they will share a few things they thought about the project in
the words.
14.
Then children can ask questions and state their opinions on the
artwork after raising their hand and the child or teacher calling on
them.
15.
Repeat steps 13-14 until every child has been given a turn (if
they want one)
16.
The teacher can collect their final products or the children may
take them home. (I would like to keep them if the children will let me
so that I have an example of my first taught apw.)
17.
Next is lunch time children so sit nicely and if I tap your shoulder
you may go line up to wash their hands and sit at their seat when
done.
Transition: Before the last two students share, I would tell the children
after the last two present then we will get called upon for sitting correctly in
their square to go wash their hands and get ready for Lunch! After the last
child presents I will remind them once more that I am looking for a lotus
flower, mouths quiet, ears listening, eyes watching, and hands down to call
on them to wash their hands for lunch.
Guidance/Preventive Discipline: Im sure it may not be super easy for
them to sit perfectly throughout discussing the final product so I would allow
them to take a 2 minute get up and stretch break halfway through. This will
be something for you to think about. Remember sitting on the carpet for an
extended period of time more than 10-15 minutes will probably arise
behaviors.
CARAs Kit Accommodations: I would try to make the area big but not too
big so that they have room to spread their legs out while presenting.
Answer to Question/Results of Investigation/Activity: I think they will
realize they are all pretty similar in shape but they all come in different sizes.
Extension Activities: They could eat the apples cut in half, they could roll
the apples in a box with drops of paint on the paper, and cut the apples up
into 8ths and paint or print with them.

Activity Plan Worksheet

Investigation Topic: Apples
Question: What can you make out of apples?
Childrens age group: 3-5 Years Old
Number of children in this group: large group
Name of Activity and Brief Description: Apple Farmer Annie
Subject: Literacy
NAEYC Standard Addressed: 2.E.04 Children have varied
opportunities to retell and reenact events in storybooks.
Goal/Domain: The child will use their language to retell the story.
Objectives of Activity: During large group time the child will use visual
aids to correctly remember one of the four events in the story out of order.
During large group time the child will use visual aids to correctly remember
three out of the four events in the story out of order.
Space and materials needed: Circle time rug, Apple Farmer Annie,
bulletin board, and pieces.
1. Procedure: I will ask the class questions on what they think the book
is about and what might happen in it.
2. I will then read the book to the children.
3. After the book is done I will bring their attention to the bulletin board to
see if we can put their pieces in the correct order.
4. I'll have the bulletin board already made with pieces using velcro to
attach to them to the board. Some of the other parts in the book will
already be on the board in between the spots for the pieces.
5. There will be four pieces to place in order:
1. First she picks the apples. 2. Then she cooks with them. 3. Third she
sells the cooked and raw apple items. 4. Last she eats the apples.
6. I will wait for the student to raise their hand or they can all help at
once to say where the next piece goes, or even what empty spot
belongs to which piece.
7. After completing the activity a couple of times we can discuss the
bulletin board and book as a group.

8. Then it will be clean-up time.

Transition: When the activity is almost done Ill give a warning. Then when
were all done, the clean-up song will come on. It will (probably) be free play
until outside time or a small group activity.
Guidance/Preventive Discipline: I could foresee children talking too loudly
and making the more quiet children not want to participate. I would inform
the children before we started the activity to use our inside voices.
CARAs Kit Accommodations: Make sure they each have enough space to
move from one position to another. (sitting back to sitting forward) Some of
the children wont sit for the story and then the bulletin board a time or two.
Having another teacher show them a quiet alternative would be very helpful.
Answer to Question/Results of Investigation/Activity: Annie the apple
farmer and her farm.
Extension Activities: visit an apple farm, eat and discuss apples, draw an
apple orchard, and sorting apples.

Activity Plan Worksheet

Investigation Topic: Apples
Question: What apples will go together?
Childrens age group: 3-5 Years Old
Number of children in this group: small group
Name of Activity and Brief Description: Counting and grouping by size
and color.
Subject: Math
NAEYC Standard Addressed: 2.F.03 Children are provided varied
opportunities and materials to categorize by one or two attributes
such as shape, size, and color.
Goal/Domain: The child will demonstrate their math and categorizing skills.
Objectives of Activity:
Group 1 & 3.) During small group time the children will correctly group half of
the twelve apples together according to size.
During small group time the children will correctly group all of the twelve
apples according to size.
Group 2 & 4.) During small group time the children will correctly categorize
by color two-thirds of the twelve colored apples.
During small group time the children will correctly sort all twelve apples
according to their color.
Space and materials needed: Four sets of twelve apples, four tables,
chairs, and four poster boards labeled for sorting according to (2)Shape and
(2)Color.
Procedure: Today we are going to sort apples by the size, color, and
numbers. I hope you brought your thinking cap with you. Im going to tap
you on your shoulder and then, you may go find your chair at the tables.
1) I would start tapping the children sitting good on their shoulders to go
to their seat at the tables.
2) Once all the children were at their tables in small groups, we would
start with whichever of the two boards we have at our table. Can you
explain what the board is for? Either here or in the materials area?
3) I would ask questions about the board we have and what is on it, then
ask them what do they think we are going to do?
4) After that we would complete the board as a group (could also be an
individual activity)
5) After the first board was completed we would try to switch with a
different table that is done.
6) Repeat steps 2-5

7) After the second board is done (if there is the time) we would all help
each other clean up the apples.
8) Then we would gather as a group on the circle time rug to discuss the
most fun parts, what the kids thought of the game, and many other
discussion questions.
Transition: I would remind the children that Im only going to ask three
more questions, then two more, and then the last one I would let everyone
get a chance to share if we have the time. Id then inform them of the next
activity.
Guidance/Preventive Discipline: Children throwing or trying to eat the
plastic apples, I would just keep a close eye out and warn the child I like it
when we feel gently with our hands, see with our eyes, smell with our nose
but, lets please keep our mouth off of the apples.
CARAs Kit Accommodations: I would want to make sure they are small
enough groups for the children to work most cooperatively together.
Answer to Question/Results of Investigation/Activity: The big ones go
with the big ones, the small with the small ones, red with red, green with
green, and yellow with yellow.
Extension Activities: Sorting types of apples, counting with apple slices,
the apple seed in the hole, and a bulletin board of counting apples.

Activity Plan Worksheet

Investigation Topic: Apples
Question: What will my instrument sound like?
Childrens age group: 3-5 Years Old
Number of children in this group: small group
Name of Activity and Brief Description: Make your own instrument
Subject: Music
NAEYC Standard Addressed: 2.J.06 Children are provided many and
varied open-ended opportunities and materials to express
themselves creatively through music, drama, dance, and two- and
three- dimensional art.
Goal/Domain: The child will make and use their own instrument using their
fine and gross motor skills.
Objectives of Activity: During small group time, the child will make and
design an instrument using random containers and materials.
During free play, the child will play with their instrument to create music.
Space and materials needed: Apple seeds, table, tape, string, glue,
paper, containers (butter, peanut butter, toilet and paper towel things, metal
tins, yogurt containers, etc.), scissors, and coloring utensils.
Procedure: Hello children today we are going to get to make our own
instruments using apple seeds, a couple different containers, tape, string,
and glue! When I tap you on the shoulder I would like you to go find your
chair at the tables with arts and crafts on them.
1) I would start tapping a childs shoulder one at a time.
2) They would go to their spot to find containers, string, glue, tape, paper,
and other things to decorate and make their instrument with.
3) I would ask them to think about what materials they would use in order
to complete their instrument before they start gluing and marking.
4) Each of them would get at least five seeds to put in their container.
5) Then I would instruct them to create their musical instrument.
6) After they were done I would write their names on each of their musical
instrument and let them dry if needed.
7) When the children are done after their spot is cleaned up they may
choose an individual activity while other children are finishing up.
Transition: I would warn the children that we have five minutes left, and
then two minutes left, then play the clean-up song so that they know it was
time to clean up and switch to the next activity.

Guidance/Preventive Discipline: I could predict children not sitting on

their bottoms for the activity.
CARAs Kit Accommodations: If I had a child that did not like getting their
fingers messy then I would provide gloves or keep a wet wash cloth close to
them.
Answer to Question/Results of Investigation/Activity: I feel like they
will come up with many different answers. It sounds like a saltshaker.
Extension Activities: planting seeds, singing a song about seed planting
and using the instruments, and free dance with the instruments.

Investigation Topic: Apples
Question: What does your apple feel like?
Childrens age group: 4-5 years old
Number of children in this group: small group
Name of Activity and Brief Description: Tell me about your apple?
Subject: Sensory
NAEYC Standard Addressed: 2.G.03 Children are provided varied
opportunities and materials that encourage them to use the five
senses to observe, explore, and experiment with scientific
phenomena.
Goal/Domain: The child will use their cognitive skills to explore, observe,
and experiment three of their five senses.
Objectives of Activity: The child will use touch, sight, and taste to correctly
tell me two out of six characteristics about the apples on their table.
The child will use touch, sight, and taste to correctly tell me six
characteristics about the apples on their table.
Space and materials needed: Apples, tables, marker, and a chart (for me
to write what they say about their apple)
Procedure: When you are sitting crisscross applesauce with your hands in
your lap I will tap your shoulder and say your name for you to go sit at your
table.
1. Look at your apple, feel your apple, what can you tell me about it? Ill
call on you one at a time and ask for a characteristic about it, please
raise your hand. When I call on you, please taste your apple and tell
me one detail about it.
2. One child at a time will tell me one thing about their apples looks,
feels, and tastes and I will write it down.
3. After each child has gotten to share, they may continue to eat their
apple or be done with it.
4. They will clean their spot and ask to go wash their hands.
5. Then they will have to choose a free choice activity while others are
finishing up at the tables.
6. When we are all done we can have a group discussion after clean up. I
would say, Okay, children, lets talk about our favorite or least favorite
thing about the apples we learned about today.

7. When I have two children left, I would give a three minute warning, two
minute warning, and then flick the light on and off when it is time to go
to the next activity.
Transition: They will hear the clean-up song and put the apples away, wash
their hands, sit at their spots on the rug, and wait for further instructions.
Guidance/Preventive Discipline: I could see children wanting to say more
than directed to and I would remind them only one characteristic per sense,
otherwise we may not get to finish the activity. Remind the children that the
apples are not for eating until I get to them, then they may eat.
CARAs Kit Accommodations: I think they will have a difficult time sitting
still for as long as the activity may take, that is why I cut it down to only
three of the five senses.
Answer to Question/Results of Investigation/Activity: Many different
answers, rough, smooth, hard, soft, bright, shiny, sweet, sour, gross, yummy,
etc.
Extension Activities: painting with apples, tasting apples, making stars,
apple bowling, apples paint bowling, and drawing apples.
