Kate Gomezs (Hupplers) Digital History

The first picture I want to add is of me playing the bassoon (Im first chair (the
bassoon player to the right)). I started playing the bassoon in 7 th grade and
throughout high school I decided that I wanted to keep playing the bassoon. During
my senior year of high school, my dad and I bought a bassoon so I could continue
on playing in college. I played first in a community band in central Minnesota and
traveled with them to play in Europe. I had my first experience with an orchestra
while I was playing in this band. The conductor of this band, Mr. Steve Anderson,
was an influence on my decision to become a music education major at SDSU.
When I got to SDSU I joined the symphonic bane, concert band ,and the orchestra
playing the bassoon. These bands toured around South Dakota and WashingtonDC.

When I was at SDSU I met a lot of people though the bands. This is a picture of
David, a trumpet player who was also a music education major at the tie, and now
my husband. We both love music and loved the music part of the music education
major. We took most of the same classes and arrived at the education block at the
same time.

This picture doesnt look like much but in reality, it had one of the biggest impacts
on my life. This was the classroom of my first education class. David and I were both
in this class together and at the same time that he fell out of the education major, I
fell further into it. This is the class where I realized that I didnt want to only teach
my students how to play an instrument, I wanted to teach them everything! I
wanted to be there for the students as they learned about the whole world. This
classroom led me to where I am today: a senior Elementary Education and Special
Education major.
